I'm playing off 12 currently and it's just dawned on me that I don't have a preferred golf ball that I'll use in comps etc.

I'll play with pretty much anything that's not a rock that looks round, scuff-free and white.

Am I missing a trick I wonder. I do like NXT Tours, Srixon Z Stars and recently Callaway SR2.

But ought I perhaps to use the same ball always to improve consistency, or does my ball-tart promiscuity not really matter that much?

I just put it down to a mix of mindless optimism and jamminess really

Bridgestone e7 at the moment. Cannot tell the difference really.

I usually pick up whatever premium ball is on the cheap. Hex chrome at the moment

I prefer Nike's or Srixon's but am not overly bothered as long as the ball is in decent condition. The only brand i dont use are Titleist (which i am guessing will be very much against the grain!) as i dont seem to get the same sort of purchase or feel on chips and putts.

Certainly better to same the same brand/flavour of ball - if not the same actual ball :whistle - throughout an entire round. Makes putting and chipping more reliable when you know how it's going to react! Otherwise, it's no big deal imo.

I think it is best to stick to a single model of ball and get used to it, particularly off the putter face and when chipping.

That said, we used to play a game with mates where you chose the opposition ball and they have to play with it - only rule was it had to be brand new. I gave a friend of mine (+2) a 10 year old, completely untarnished Molitor one evening. For those that don't know, these were harder than an industrial diamond!

After a few practice putts, our 4 ball headed out and to cut a long story short, he played with it perfectly and was around -3 after 18 holes! We got trounced and it made me realise that if you are good enough, the ball (just like the clubs) doesn't matter all that much.

To be honest I will play any ball so long as it is not rock hard. I don't notice any performance difference, they just feel a bit nicer.

As long as I use generally equivalent balls it doesn't matter much. Going from a range ball to a premium is obvious but a three piece to a 4... Doubt I could tell

I usually game a Prov1x however my 2 best rounds ever were with an AD333 and
a TM tour preferred and both were scuffed up old balls.

I've started to play the same ball all the time now. Using the Wilson dx2. Purely for the reason that ill get the consistency for the ball on all ***** and I'll be able to judge it better.

As long as you play a similar ball every time I don't think it matters which brand you use.
ProV/ZStar/B330 etc all feel the same to me so it makes little difference which one I use.

Yes, even if its a cheap ball you stick with I think its important to maintain consistency especially putting. When I practice on the putting green, say a 20ft putt, the perfect weight with an E6 will leave a softer premium ball 2-3 ft short!

I prefer premium balls and usually play Bridgestone or Srixon although since the Titleist day I've gone back to those. The necessity of the firmer winter balls (AD333 tour) seem to be going and it felt like Spring yesterday
