Not sure if anyone else has seen this story on the t'interweb:

Looks like they are in the process of having to make change following the removal of the tee in preperation for the Masters in April.

Sad news really as it was one of the courses defining features, that gave many a good player a decision to make going down the 17th.

On a different note. I wonder how they will re-model the hole/tee to give a similar challenge?

i have visited on several occasions, it is still just a tree and still one of thousands. are you new to change?

Nope, good with change. Underpants last week, socks in a few days regardless of whether they need it.

17 would be a dull hole without that tree there - the fact that it also has a story attached to it too......

I can just hear Peter Alliss on Masters Sunday........."Rory, is taking a free drop away from the staked trees on 17, the new copse is called Dave's Orchard after the junior greenkeeper who planted them"

Not quite the same!!?? Change is good, especially if it makes things better, this on the other hand doesn't.......IMO

It's a shame that it has succumbed but they will replace it some how. But yeah it's part of the course and after numerous attempts for it to be chopped down by certain committee members I think it will change the hole drastically. Like having the Road Hole with no bunker, or no Valley of Sin, and any other iconic landmarks on courses.

Ike finally got his wish ..... and the news reaching folks, kind of timely .... on our President's Day National holiday, 3rd Monday in February. (although a few States keep the day under an additional name, as Arkansas does)

Interesting to see whether another tree gets craned in, or they move the tee for a different alignment and lay some bunkers in.

Well if you have been fortunate enough to visit Augusta, you should be well aware of the iconic status that tree has, there is lots of history surrounding that tree and that is one of those quirky things that keeps this game great.

How about if they filled in the Swilcan Burn at St Andrews, or replace the bridge with a nice one made out of railway sleepers

I for one hope they replace the tree in its original position

Sad news. I imagine the green jackets are already sorting it. They won't let something of that stature disappear. They will either change the hole to make the drive just as tight or add more bunkering
