Played today , we were only a 2 ball , but as there was a gap between us and the lines ahead we were surprised to catch a group on the 1st green,
So the waiting began , nice evening we were both playing well and chatting away , another 2 ball caught us on the 3rd , standing on the Par 3, 6th tee, 5 easy pars in the bag , the 3 ball are fluffing around on the green but they wave us through .

We play down, im just off left my mate in the bunker , as we are walking down they finish out ..

I make par , mate makes 4 and we make way to 7th tee , to nearly get skulled by the 3 ball teeing off .
They all tee off and head on up the 7th , and we waited every shot bar 1 from ther to the finish ,

I was fuming to be honest , we met in the hall of the clubhouse entering the scores and they tried to have a conversation , I decided least said easily mended , will be said at a different time ..

What would you have done (a) on the course (b) in the hall after??

Ta

Nothing you can do matey, I played on Sunday on my own and got stuck behind a 2 ball who were stuck behind a 4 ball, I gave up in the end and did the front 4 twice !...

Being a bit of a direct, blunt Yorkshire man, I occasionally come out with things like, "we've been out there that long I need to go for another shave," or such like. Sorry, but being quiet or subtle just doesn't work with me anymore. If I feel someone is slow, I tell them and let them defend their pace of play. The (current) perennial we didn't let you through because you had nowhere to go doesn't wash with me. Let us through and let the group in front make that decision. Why are you making that decision for them.

Sounds like you may have been waved "up" and not waved "through"....??
Some courses players do this, mark balls on par3 greens for next group to tee off, then they hole out and continue

But maybe you should have asked on the 7th......."did you not just wave us through there.....??"
If not, "what was all that about then.....??"

I waited on eight holes yesterday at my new club before I finally plucked up the courage to ask outright to play through. I was playing alone and a member was introducing a friend of his to the course in the group in front. They were very friendly when I asked but it still annoys me that I had to ask.

The fourball in front of them waved me through on the very next hole with a smile and a wave. Two completely different experiences within ten minutes.

Am I right in saying they waved you through but didn't let you through?

Yep in a nutshell Martin

Yea ive played on course like u mention esp long par 3's , this isn't 1 of them
Having nearly got skulled with a drive meant it was better to keep quiet ..as I was fair thick,..

I wasn't that upset bout waiting up to then as it was nice evening and we were chatting away .. why wave a group thru then ignore them?

When a course is busy allowing a group to play through often just speeds up the play for them but slows the pace of play for everyone behind ! - there's no blanket cure - just good manners at the time by all concerned.

As long as the group in front know how to let someone through, it won't slow down the groups behind. Tee off together, walk up together and the group playing through need to be willing to press on and play quickly for the next few shots.

Seeing as they nearly took your heads off (I think I read your post right), I'd have had to have said something there and then; it could have been pretty grim if they'd have hit either of you for obvious reasons. What they could have done as you walked down following your tee shots is just say "We're carrying on lads".

As others have said it seems as though they were just letting you play down but I can totally see why you were fuming. You did well to let it go to be honest but I'd have had to say something at the time.

Surely some of you have waved people through, only for one f the players to snap hook his ball into oblivion. you they have to just play on and either speed up or wait for them to catch you up again.

How many times have you been waved through only for you to mess up as you are in a rush to get on with getting through. Under pressure etc.

I agree. Teeing off in that manner was dangerous. I think you needed to say something afterwards and politely point out that hey had in fact waved you through and should have honoured that
