we had our first big comp of the year today and the forecast was for cold northerly and hail and showers.

full field for the draw, at least 20 called and cancelled this morning.

should the those who blew out still get 0.1?

not as a blanket rule no, if people have a reasonable excuse for pulling out then that should be fine. For those scared of the weather then ideally yes but hard to police

I'd question whether Congu rules allow it.

We impose sanctions in the event of no shows without good reason, including forfeiture of entry fees and bans from subsequent competitions, but you can't be imposing handicap adjustments in those circumstances in my opinion.

No, but do you pay in advance? if you do I would suggest that without a genuine excuse they should forfeit their entry fee, if not, and no genuine excuse they should be monitored and if persistent they shoukd be banned from a future comp.

Little point in having a poll since it is a matter of the rules of handicapping. A player cannot have his handicap adjusted if he has not started the qualifying round.

yes, yes the rules etc, but who's to say something should not be done about people who don't fancy the weather. Today loads of two balls stuck between 3 balls and a couple of guys with no playing partners who had to wait to join someone else.

i'm pretty sure if it had been 20 deg today with no wind we would not have had a single drop out

Yes, I'm with you on that. The club should be taking action on no-shows and late cancellations.

Not showing up or contacting the club & PP's is poor but a 0.1, no.

A 2 week competition ban, yes.

At our place is compulsory to contact you PP'so and write to competitions sec if you bail after the competition closes for bookings (night before). He reviews and decides wether to apply the ban.

Repeat offenders are monitored.

I've called off because of the weather. No shelter of any kind on the coast. Also, I can mind going up .1 after 13 holes of good golf to get caught heavy rain for the last few that made it impossible to play. It's a tough call, it's club golf and at that level if someone doesn't fancy playing in the rain....well.

A ban is the correct solution, if you put your name down it should be a ban from the following 7 days from competition, for repeat offenders it's 7 days plus the next board comp.

We are getting tougher now on no shows and get a "friendly" warning the first time, a formal one the second time and a one comp ban for a third strike. All when and good in theory but a nightmare in reality. How do you rationale between someone waking up, feeling like rubbish and genuinely under the weather, having a family issue to deal with, and those that wake up look out the window and don't fancy it and go back to bed, giving the pro shop some lame excuse.

I realise that we do this for fun and sometimes life gets in the way and it's only courtesy to call the club and let them know you won't be playing. Giving them enough time, certainly at my club, gives the pro a chance to call those on the reserve list or jiggle the start times about a bit to plug gaps and try and get balanced groupings

No, but there should be a ban from the next comp or two for persistent offenders.

One warning then a 3 comp ban.

If your gonna stick your name down commit. I played with someone last week who was drawn first group, both partners pulled out and he ended up going out at 9.30am despite getting to the club at 7.00 for his 7.45 tee time.

I'd have been absolutely fuming
