I know that Luke Donald uses it, and i'm sure i've seen some German fella using it too, but why dont more?

It has puzzled me for years!

They obviously dont pay out ££££££££££££ to get hundreds of pros using their gear like the likes of callaway, TM, nike, Titleist, etc.

No doubting the quality of Mizuno equipment, If I wasnt a brand snob to titleist I would have their irons in my bag in a a shot.

Only thing I have never liked are Mizuno Drivers. Have tried a few and they didnt do it for me.

HTL has pulled the blue stickers off the back of his, he says it is to stop them looking chavtastic but I secretly reckon that coupled with his mizzy bag, he is pretending to be a tour-pro testing exclusive un-badged mizzy prototype irons ;)

Just kidding mate :D

10-15 years ago they used to be one of the big boys with the tour players. Just look at the guys like Faldo, Lyle anf that era, the all played Mizuno at some stage of their careers.

MWJ is right, they didn't pay big money to get tour pros to use their kit.

That's in stark contrast to the likes of TaylorMade who will even supply your local club pro with his kit if it's going to shift units off the shelf.

There is also a much wider choice nowadays, many more choices for pros out there.

IMO they still make the best clubs around though!

I don't know about forged irons - I have forged Titleists although they are the stainless steel version which isn't as soft as the chrome version of the 735CM. I have owned cast iron sets before and don't notice any difference between cast and forged - the softest feeling clubs I played were cast Cleveland TA5's but that was because they had sensicore shafts which dampen vibration, not because of forged heads.

I do like the weight of a forged head though.

Anyway if forged was so much better than cast then makers such as Callaway and Ping would have no market share.

I think times have moved on and the ball doesn't need to be worked like it did in the balata ball era, modern balls are so technologically advanced that cast clubs will spin and control a Prov1 or equivalent as well as a forged club like a Mizuno.

Mizuno list close to 50 on their site, but not too many that are that well known - they've got Sophie Sandolo though so they can't be all wrong

I think if you were to take a survey of the Asian and Australasian tours they would be right up there but there isn't such a large number of pros on the european or pga tours using them. However they must be doing something right to continue to develop and release quality forged and cast clubs every few years without the need for everything to be about then number of units sold like TM or Cally.

As I understand it Mizuno also make kit for athletics, basketball, football and baseball. Golf is just another division; although a damn good one. Perhaps they don't have the commerical bias that Nike, Cally and TM have.

Interesting enough though whilst at my lesson last week, the pro did say that I had some nice gear, and whilst choosing a 3 wood said that he'd take the Ping G10 over the TM Burner 3 wood any day, but then said that TM make damn fine woods, but their irons had less to be desired. So why did he just fully kit out a friend of mine in TM throughout the set? I was confused.

I'm not the type of customer that needs massaging, I am a saleman and a retailer, he knows that. But one thing you don't do is knock another product or brand to gain favour with a customer. It just made me feel a little uncomfortable.

I have just discovered on Mizunos website that they do kiddies kit. Guess what is on my sons 5th birthday list!

I don't know what the pros at the club have in their own bags though. It might be worth asking.

I can’t agree with any of that birdie. Got my first forged clubs last year, after a lifetime of Wilson (3 sets) and Titleist DCIs (which I had for fourteen years), and the difference in feel is huge, recently had the new Wilsons in the reader test, and despite looking very similar in design with the same cut back cavities, compared with my Mizunos it was like hitting the ball with a tin can.

Callaway and Ping built market share when forged clubs were exclusively blades, and game improvement clubs had to be cast, technology has moved on now so that Mizuno’s forged clubs can compete in this area, but “feel” for the golfer they are targeting is an almost irrelevant issue, it’s forgiveness and ease of play that is the main seller. When getting the Mizunos I tried the Pings, and there was no feel at all, but no doubt easy to hit. For a lower handicapper forged should win everytime imo.

Having been playing for 4 years I got personally fitted last year for Mizuno irons, MX-25's after trying a Mizuno MX-25 6 iron and a Ping G10 6 iron for 4 weeks; the Mizuno won as to looks and accuracy (for me anyway).
Driver: - I was slicing my Calloway Big Bertha and got measured for a Mizuno 560 Driver, 12.5 degree. I'm now hitting the ball straight and have added 35 to 45 yards distance, plus reducing my handicap last year to 12 from 14 ... I support Spurs too!

I'd never have anything else now.

When i bought my current irons (MX-17's) i tried a number of others inc TM, Nike, Callaway, Wilson & Ping and not one set felt anywhere near as nice, or gave me the results that the Mizuno's did.

I can't see me playing anything other than mizuno in future. My 52's are the best clubs I have ever tried. Someone else is going to have to make something really special for me to change.
