Disgusting and shocking.
Not a lot of heroism there from the Yanks, although they probably perceive themselves as heroes. As will the good ol' folks back home.

Devil's advocate here... we don't know the whole story. We're basing this on claims from people who were obviously very close to the victims.

Maybe the photographers were in amongst insurgents who had been shooting at Iraqi police or us soldiers, or maybe even trying to set off a bomb... I'm not saying that that is the case here, but it might have been.

The only way to get the best war photographs is to get into the middle of the most dangerous place you can be where it's very possible that you may lose your life.

It's also very possible that the US pilot did the absolutely wrong thing and fired on innocents.

Only thing i'm certain to be appalled about (from this clip) is the apparant disregard for the value of human life shown throughout, especially towards the two young children who were in the wrong place at absolutely the worst time.

Slugger - I hear what you say, but the Reporter & photographer were Reuters staff, so I hardly think they'l be implanted into an Insurgent cell.

From what I can see, its just a horrendous example of trigger happy US forces, - and the way that gunner just licks his lips at the prospect of the guy trying to crawl away picking up a 'weapon' so that he can kill him 'again' is disturbing.
I know the view from the screen of an Apache flying perhaps a mile away makes it perhaps 'playstation-like', but these guys know exactly what they are doing, and what the weapons are doing to those on the receiving end.

I cannot imagine how many other incidents like this have also happened, which is why the US will never win, as every innocent killed perhaps inspires another to take up arms against them.

Not condoning all the actions, or taking any sides, but, in the clip at 4mins 20 secs one of the guys on the ground points an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) at the helicopter.

Now if you were in the helicopter, what would you do?

A lot of the other guys also had AK47's. The helicopter crew had no idea that 2 of them were reporters, nor could they have any way of knowing that the van that came to try and rescue them had 2 kids in it.

Totally agree...

This world is one huge mess at the moment! I blame whoever thought it was a good idea to invent god!

rickg: The 'RPG' being pointed is actually the photographers camera with long lense, - thats why they all gather around him casually to view it as he gets up again, as the Apache comes around to open fire.
If someone had just fired an RPG at the Heli, I doubt they would all stand chatting as it came around on them ?

And, having now watched both the short version, and the long version, I havent yet seen anyone 'firing' at the Apache, or indeed anything remotely like an AK-47.

The guys originally wiped out stroll across an open area, and then stand chatting on a street corner, how any US Apache crew can take that for the behaviour of 'insurgents' is beyond me.

Looking at the video they do appear to have weapons and the guy who either did or didn't have the RPG did look like he did on that video.
