idea for matchplay tournament

Just an idea but do you think if they had a pro matchplay tournament where say Tiger no1 or Mickelson no2 etc had to play the worlds no 45 whoever he is and they had to give him 2 shots it would catch on and be a better spectacle.
Yeah I know I'm daft as a brush me.

No, because they already have matchplay tournaments and it's invariably not the highest ranked player who wins. Although I'm not sure Leftie ever takes part does he?

It wouldn't happen because TV hates Matchplay.
Even the WGC Matchplay is hated as an event by TV. If all the well known, high profile players get knocked out in the first round and the final ends up being between Bo Van Pelt and Scott Verplank how many are going to watch it.....

At least this years WGC had two Brits in so who cared if it finished early apart from the Yanks hosting the pictures! It won't happen but an interesting thought.

I had an invitation a while ago but declined as I was already scheduled to take Smiffy's hard-earned again. Since then, they have never repeated the invitation
