hi all, played Chigwell golf course for the first time today. the greens were iced/rock hard like concrete.

i scored a 96 which i'm really pleased with becauase considering the amount of 'perfect' approach shots i hit on to the green - which normally would have stopped but bounced about 10feet up in the air - i reckon i'd have posted around a 86 on a normal day!

still, really enjoyed it and once i get rid of the slide/fade off the tee look out tiger! ;)

I played 18 today and about an inch of snow/ice everywhere, bar a small square on the temp green. Shot 6 over my handicap but was gald to get out.

Played in the ice as well today. Hit some cracking long drives as the ball bounced off the concrete like fairways but that was about it. Was running the ball in from some ridiculous distances but was the only choice as anything that came in from height bounced yards past.

The 12th today :D

Greenstaff had to clear a small square around the flag so the course could be playable, but it didn't make much differnece.

hey JC. What on earth possessed you to go out in that?

Was thinking about playing tomorrow but the ground's still rock hard so that's gone on the back burner.

I pulled out of the monthly stableford with this cold bug thing but have to play tomorrow in the winter knockout as it is the last day to get the 1st round matches played. Nipped up to the club earlier and everything was like the phot and white and on temps. Its suppose to be milder tomorrow but I'm sure we'll still be on temps

Congratulations to everyone who braved the elements to get a game (and those in warmer parts of the country who were on proper greens and had decent conditions you lucky so and sos)

The Juniors have a winter comp called the Triple Trophy. This involves 3 rounds, Stab, Medal and Bogey. The closing date is the 11th, and I had only played my stab round (finished level) so I had to play another today. Played Bogey, but given the conditions and not giving myself any hope of putting for par, lost 6 down. To win the Trophy I have to shoot 8 under tommorow, as the lead is 1 under. Given that I am the defending champ, I need a setella round :D

Supposed to be warmer tomorrow :D, but given that I actually wasn't cold today as I just bought a new base layer which worked a treat.

our course also closed greens still frozen which was a disappointment as the weather was dry and around 6 degrees but unfortunately it froze last night leaving the greenkeeper in a unenivable position of closing the course.

I played yesterday.

I had 120 left to front of green (temp). I played gap wedge in steady swing expecting it to picth short then run on .... WRONG It bounce so high I nearly lost the flight, it must have been 30yds through the bck of the green. I managed 11 holes before my fingers had gone numb and I couldn't feel the club

Played today. Apart from struggling on the tee box to get a tee in the ground the course was pretty playable. Temporary greens all the way round but in pretty good knick and nice and green now the frost has thawed. Played the winter league (4ball better ball) and lost on the 18th but apart from one poor drive on 16 hit the ball well off the tee. Chipping and putting was pretty solid but I struggled with my 5 wood and my irons.

I think my iron play was down to being too careful in the execution to get the ball close and not really swinging through the shot. I didn't want to hit any flat out as it seemed any full shot just kept going and didn't want to hit it too short in case it didn't release. I felt I got caught between the two stools.

I tried hitting a club less and playing a full shot but sometimes it would bounce on the hard ground and run out and others times would hit a dead patch and stop. If I played the correct club for the distance and hit it easier I was still getting too much release and going way past. I can't complain too much as that is the challenge of winter golf.

It'll go down as a match we should have one but the guys we played were great company on and off the course and means my partner and I will be fired up for the next pairs event.

Played on saturday, conditions weren't too bad but on 18 temps. Lots of funny bounces, and with the hard fairways and temps, played more like a links than parkland! Shot 70 gross, with 3 birdies. Won the match on the 18th after chipping in for a 2 and my playing partners scoring a bogey 4.

Just nice to get out for a practice. New driver still settling in but much more consistent this time out

Checked on Metcheck on Friday and saw it was going to feel like -9 early saturday morning and knew it would be thick of frost so didnt bother, went up yesterday for a practice with the wife but though warmer there was 25mph winds so ended up in the clubhouse for a few drinks. Roll on the summer.
