Our course is only open for 9 holes at the moment due to the weather. So played yesterday, and it was cold, but felt it wasn't enough, so decided to play again this morning. Testing out my new trolley too. Well I should have heed the warning as I went A over T on my way to the first tee. Fairways were rock solid, greens were like an ice rink, but still managed to play my best golf this year. Weird eh?

I have Game Golf now, and its fun to come home and see how far I'm hitting the ball and my average so I can gauge my club selection in future rounds.

But...

Should courses be open during these frozen weeks? It didn't feel safe on some of the paths.

Play if you want to. We are not children and don't need to be told to when to stop playing due to safety.

If you think its dangerous then get back in the car and go home. I certainty wouldn't be crying if I played on a frozen course and hurt myself.

Be careful using these averages from icy conditions, the ball isnt going to be going as far once it defrosts!!!

who's crying? I lived in Canada for 4 months in sub-zero temps, I know about treacherous conditions and can deal with them, I was just surprised it was open, especially with this culture of personal injury claims all over.

Well that's true and I make notes to the fact. Strangely last year I was hitting 220-230 with the driver, but this winter only hit 200 once, so I'm still at that stage where I'm developing my swing. Just happy to see it go straight. :)

No ice in sight down here on the south coast. Not much wind either so had a couple of hours on the range and chipping green before having a quick 8 holes. Tee shirt and jumper weather, lovely. Don't see the point of going on the course if everything is frozen solid, it's just not golf.

Personally I fail to see what it does to help my game when it's as icy as this and will only play if its a comp. I would rather hit the range and work on my swing in the relative sanctuary of a bay

Yeah I see that. Have no money for the range till I get paid, so as I already pay membership I go on the course.

Was looking forward to a game at the belfy today. Part of an Xmas present from gf. Played page but greens were rock hard and wasn't enjoyable at all.

Was as impressed by the place, hotel and Ryder cup aura but give me my home track any day.

You our can't play proper golf on frozen greens

I know what you mean it really wasn't good. But what also allowed me to do was control my pitching off the green. I was more mindful than I usually am. I know I should be anyway, but still learning, and knowing that if I over play it, chances are it's going past the green into a bunker or something. I still kind of enjoyed it.

Your pretty lucky to be playing any type of golf in this current weather, not many courses open,
whereabouts do you play ?

I played in the snow yesterday. We had a cracking four ball, and it was great fun, but it was nothing like golf. All of my playing partners lost balls in the middle of the fairways, and putting was impossible. Even yellow balls disappeared into the snow.

Course closed today. Boooo.

Took my daughter for her lesson this morning and as we were waiting for a 4 ball to tee off from the 10th so we could pass to get to the back field one of them hit their drive from a temp tee did a 360 and fell over as the box was frozen.

I wouldn't have used game golf today, with the extra bounce and roll due to the ice, your distances will be all messed up.

There is an argument that wet days with no roll may counter balance this, but given the weather pattern for the next few months I'd rather wet carry distances they icy bouncy distances

yeah maybe I shouldn't have used it, mind you I did hit the ball further last weekend when it wasn't frozen. There is no way to delete a round once you've signed it is there?

so you havnt got £5 for the range, but as a member you dont mind damaging the course and greens,so come summer you will be posting how bad the greens are.

Who says there is damage done? I played yesterday..walked all over our greens in icy conditions, but come March/April, when it is slightly warmer, our greens will still be the best around for many miles!

What a ridiculous comment. The green staff deemed the course fit for play, not me. Check out my earlier posts last summer, and tell me if I was moaning about the state of the greens? Dear me.

So will ours. They were in great condition this summer.
