Ian Holloway

Don't like the bloke personally, puts himself across as a bit of a comedian and character but seems more like the village idiot to me. However I do not think whoever Palace have in charge will alter their fate

When he was at Blackpool got us to the premier league, we had a devil may care, we'll score more than you approach, great to watch but on several occasions 2-0 leads ended up in draws and even defeats, ultimately we just failed to stay up. I think he tried the opposite approach at Palace and this was turning into an even worse failure for him. Also at Blackpool he had mainly the same group of players that got the club promoted whereas at Palace he has far too many new faces.

I would have happily have him back when he has got his mojo back.

He said after Mondays defeat by Fulham that all the changes had upset the team spirit in the dressing room. That was pretty evident in the second half where players stopped running for each other and the passing and defending was inept. Its the Managers job to get the players gee'd up for games and once he had lost the changing room then it's all over for him.

A good man but out of his depth. Wonder who's taking over?

Tony Pulis?

Agree with everything Louise said other than the last line. He left on the Friday with the chairman's consent to have a chat with Palace about their future and see what was what, on agreement that he returned Saturday and any deal was done after the weekend. As it were, Palace "blew him away" in his words and he didn't turn up for the coach on Saturday - leaving neither the players or fans any clue what was going on. All the wisecracks in the world won't win my respect back after that.

And Louise is dead right about his style of play. We were so cavalier at times that it was suicidal. We were 2-1 up against United on the last day and instead of trying to hold out for a draw at worst (which would have kept us up) he replaced strikers with more strikers and we lost 3-2 to get relegated on goal difference. We couldn't have expected to go to Old Trafford and get a result, other matches had put us in serious trouble, but his decisions that day got us relegated.

IMHO unless he drastically changes something, he's destined to be a manager who gets teams from Champs to Prem on the underdog spirit and then can't keep them there. Between him and the palace chairman they've bought poorly this year, spending £15 million on some very average players. He's far too loyal taking people like Dobbie and Kevin Phillips from Blackpool who are just no longer premiership standard. As it is, he's ended up with a large squad of very average players. They'd have been better buying 3 or 4 premiership quality lads like Scott Parker or even Shaun Wright-Phillips who know how to play at that level and can influence games.

As it is, I'd be mahoooosively surprised if they avoided the drop, the standard of the league is just too high not to improve from when you are in the Championship.

jeeze that felt good.

Neil Lennon should be 1st pick but although he would cover himself hugely well financially it would be a gigantic backward step for him.

That and the fact he would not even get considered means Sir Neil will still be with us thankfully.

The fact a run of the mill gaffer that has done nothing of note in his career will get the position says everything about the most over rated league in world football.

An idiot like Pullis, Rossler or Di Matteo will succeed another idiot.

Di Matteo for me. But not even Paul Daniels could save us IMO!

People have to realise that the squad we went up with cost £2.45 million. Murray injured an Zaha sold for £10 million +. Our two best players gone. Holloway went for the quantity approach when buying players. Fair enough but why so many midfielders? His record wasn't exactly stunning either. Bit odd also that Dougie resigned a year ago today!

We are over achieving being in the top flight with what we have and we have to accept that.

Palace forever!

lol :)

True, but so are Hull and Southampton and they're doing ok.

Re your point about midfielders, he did the same at Blackpool where we ended up with at least 8 midfielders when we were in the prem all as good as each other - off the top of my head; Charlie Adam, David Vaughan, Keith Southern, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Matt Phillips, Basham, Grandin, Ludo Sylvestre. The only potential exception being Charlie was a tad better, but he was the only real potential game-changer in that squad and crumbled a little bit towards the end when the Liverpool deal was gaining momentum after January.

It looks like Palace are going the same way. You need people to get you some goals (and prevent you conceding as many!) not just averagely talented back ups.

He's a good Bristol Boy. He would be better getting back to the West Country where he would be both understood and loved :whoo:

Lennon is one of the worst managers in the SPHell, with his resources both financial and facilities he struggles to put a dominating team on the park, most of Celtics luck in games comes from corrupt officials.

I wouldn't mind Martin O'Niell too much. He seems to be a good motivator, organises a good defence and engenders a spirit within the camp. Tactically he is pretty sound whereas i agree with others that Holloway is too gung-ho for the Premiership. I like DeMatteo but don't think he's necessarily the man to work on a tight budget.

Will be interesting what the team spirit is like on Saturday but, for sure, the noise from the fans will be awesome as usual!

Fishing again?

If you actually believe what you have posted you need sectioned.:D

In fairness Jimbob, we didn't get relegated because we couldn't hold a lead at Old Trafford, we got relegated because we only took 8 points off the other teams at the bottom. The Charlie transfer saga didn't help either. I also think that our good position at Christmas made the Chairman think we were in a strong enough position to stay up and so he didn't need to spend on strengthening the team, although given his frugality there was no guarantee he would have spent either way.

What a season we had though :D

Must not bite, must not bite, must not...;)
Second tightest defence in Europe would suggest we have just 'moved to the next level' as they all like to say.

Anyway keeping this on track, Holloway has been found out at this level yet again, he isn't good enough and he knows it. If I were a Palace fan I would be praying for Di Matteo but I can't see that happening

I like his honesty in admitting he's got it wrong and lost the dressing room to a degree. As the Palace chairman said most managers would have carried on, taken the cash, and ignored the problems. I like him. He brings a bit of colour into a media sanitised world and think he's done great with limited squads and funds at Blackpool and to a lesser degree at Palace to get them into the PL promised land.

I hope he takes some time out, gets his mojo back and doesn't just jump to another job. Think that would be a bit disrespectful to Palace. Take stock, come back bigger and stronger and see if he can do it again. As for his replacement I don't think the Pullis way is the way Palace play and I'd think Di Matteo would be ideal

Found out AGAIN!!??? How was he found out last time? Blackpool didn't disappoint anyone on the prem visit, the football they played that season has upped the bar for championship clubs coming up. Before them, the sole objective was to cling on for grim death and not get humiliated. Now clubs come in and look to compete.

Palace are lucky to be afloat, at that stage I bet they would have feinted to think they'd even have 1 season in the prem.
