Hi all

Played my club yesterday in a 4 ball, we were the first group out behind the mens comp.... so a lot of waiting on the tees and on the fairway to play shots. The sun was shining so hey ho.

The 2 ball behind us were obviously getting frustrated and on the 10th fired a shot into the green barely as we left it.... a few glances were shared as to be fair the guy gave a good shout of fore.

But then on the remaining holes we had 2 tee shots blasted over our heads.... I mean wtf is wrong with people, they could see we were being held up. My 4 ball are all pretty chilled out and none of us are the types to confront these kind of people but I wish we were. I felt like picking up the ball and lobbing it in the pond.

Its just some people are more obsessed with how fast they can go round in rather then what score they can achieve and making it enjoyable. If these people are so keen to play a round in sub 3 hours they should take up 20 20 cricket as that was designed for the younger generation of people who are growing up in the instant gratification want-it-now time-poor, cash rich X-factor culture that is taking over Golf.
I'm surprised the format for Rio 2016 is standard strokeplay and not some shortened, sexed up version with things like Powerplays, time outs, 1 mulligan per round (joker shot?) that looks nice in HD and takes 90 mins tops.

Assuming they weren't going to get through the Comp, I'd have been inclined to stand aside and let them through.
Then at the next hole, when they were waiting in the fairway, a quick shout of "Come on, I thought you were in a hurry!" might get the message across....

Then again...

I'd have walked up and wrapped a 4 iron round the so and so's neck. No joke, that made me rage thinking about it.

If the convention is that nobody goes through the comp, then they are stuck and you were probably acting as a good buffer for the last group out - imagine how that group would have been affected!

I'd have been very tempted to simply pocket the balls that flew you - they had their 1 chance nearly bombing you on that green. I have been known to tee it up as a 1-and-only/less confrontational warning.

I'd have done what you did the first time...and offered long range glares. But when tee shots start flying over your head, particularly for a second time, all I can say is that being a visitor would have served me in good stead. Bang out of order, dangerous and absolutely against the spirit of the game and I'd have either driven it back to them, (aiming left to manage my slice of course :D) or popped the ball in my bag and waited for them to have asked for it/them back...

Fair play to you for holding back.

Why not just let them through? If theyre a 2 ball theyre obviously going to catch up a 4 ball so just let them through and save any aggro? Just to add I would be fuming as well if someone hit over my head, and their ball would have ended up in the pond! But if your in no rush, whats the harm with letting them get ahead and out the way?

Think I'd have done something silly if I was in your position tbh. Hope you reported them.

I was going to but we'd chatted to them earlier in the round and they were only visitors.

There was a comp of 9 4 balls ahead of us playing in a better ball competition. .... they/we weren't going anywhere fast. I'm the first to let people through if they're faster/we're slower, but in this instance there was no point.

It still makes me angry now thinking about it.

I always let people through that play at a quicker pace but if some one starts firing balls over my head,Not a chance.

Comp groups get right of play, the group infront aren't going to let a 2 ball bounce game though. So whats the point for them to sit between OP and the comp group infront.

This problem keeps coming up on the forum , the reason is people in smaller groups " who will be faster" expect to be always waved thro even if the course is backed up with 3/4 balls in official comps.
BTW. if they drove thro my game more than once , they might not see their BALLS again.

But by letting them through earlier when it was obvious they were being idiots they wouldn't have been your problem anymore and you could have enjoyed your round without worrying about a couple of nobbers banging balls over your heads.

For real they tee'd off and flew balls over your heads?

Twice, yes.

The incident on the 10th with their shots to the green actually flew a ball between myself and another in my group.

In hindsight I'll let people like this through in future, even if they've got nowhere to go.

Once may be a mistake... and a second might be forgiven but... the third - Well that's a different story.

Actually, it would depend on how much I was drinking... The second one might get the urological treatment. :D

The shot to the green with a call... Those thing happen, not great but on a slow day...

Hitting shots over your head!! I'm astonished!!

I am a confrontational type but I am getting old and love my golf. I really am not sure how I would have delbt with your situation.

I personally would do what I've always done.

When someone tees off or hits a shot into us when we are clearly in range, ill put my game on hold and stand by his/their ball until they approach and give them a chance to explain their actions.

If they say "Sorry pal, I hit a worldy" fair enough. Honest enough reason so fair do.

Chances are if the were a smaller group they'd be let through on the next tee.

If not, and another ball came close. Rinse and repeat the above.

With the exception that when they approach the next time I make it known that another occurrence will be reported and they will be pointed out to the relivent people upon finishing their round.

Works for me

Just watch the pro golf events , A 2 ball will NEVER get waved thro a 3 balls unless the 3ball lose ground on the game ahead. or return to replay from the tee . If you keep up with the game ahead no problems.

Why not just tell them, guys we are being held up by group in front and chill out with the drives until we are out of range, no confrontation, no arguing, no shouting, no reporting them like a child telling the teacher on someone. Just simply communication something that people seem unable to do on a golf course. Oh forgot to mention if you did have a quiet word you would feel better and not feel the need to write about it online.
