In contrast to many other recent threads....

Played a round last night as a single at my place.

Was aware after checking the start sheet that there were a couple of 4BBB matches (official club knockout comp being played off the whites) that had tee'd off around 4.30pm so delayed my teeing off as much as possible but eventually teed off at 5.15pm having arrived at the club at around 4.40pm in order to get out ahead of a 4ball that was due to tee off at 5.30pm.

I tried to play slowly (partly due to the heat and partly so I wouldn't catch the matches ahead up) but at a pace to keep a hole ahead of the 4 ball....not easy for me to play slowly and on the 6th tee caught up a two ball who I wasn't aware were out on the course....they saw me and immediately stood aside to let me through. I did enquire if they wanted to join up as a 3 ball but they declined saying they were going to cut across to the 10th on completing the 6th.

Stood on the par 5 7th tee I could see the first of the 2 fourball matches ahead of me on the green...but behind me had appeared to be a mystery 2 ball playing at some pace coming up the 6th. I resolved to play the 7th and then sit by the 8th tee waiting for the pair behind to catch up and ask if they wanted to join me.

2 lusty blows with a 2 wood and a wedge and a putt later I'd suddenly finished the 7th with the 4 ball ahead half way up the 8th fairway and the 2 ball behind halfway down the 7th.

A shout came from up the fairway and it became apparent that the 4ball match had lost a ball and were calling me through. The 2ball behind me had disappeared into some trees looking for a ball so I needed no further encouragement, grabbed a hybrid, skulled one up the fairway, and then knocked another on to the green. By this time the group had found the lost ball so we all played up to the green, I putted out and left them to it and walked on to the 9th.

Only to find another 2 ball who weren't on the start sheet (or at least weren't listed as being between the 2 4 ball matches)heading up towards the 9th green.

I played out the 9th and arrived at the short par 3 tenth to find the two ball with one ball on the green and another being searched for in deep rough. Once more they immediately signalled me to play through....I asked if they wanted to team up but once more was declined (I was tempted to check my armpits for bad odours at this stage!) so I had the 11th to myself and as I reached the tee I saw the 4 ball match ahead were just reaching the green.

I was playing well and it didn't take long to hole out and I reached the 12th tee just after the last of the 4ball match had tee'd off. I was immediately invited to play up to the green with them (hit a really **** shot) and then allowed to play out the par 3 and walk off to the thirteenth with a clear course in front of me for the last 6 holes.

So....4 groups of golfers, two of them in an official club knockout match (where they get to organise their own tee time to suit their needs not playing at a time dictated by committee) let a single golfer through with virtually no disruption to his or their own games.

Just thought I'd share this joyous tale as an antidote to the many slow play/who has priority yada yada yada posts. :D

Thats how it should be, faster groups let through.

me and my pp play at the same time. we encounter the same 5 groups almost every time we play. they always let us through straight away and with plenty of banter.

its not hard. sometimes i just don't understand people
