I was almost a bandit - anyone else have a "if only" round?

Morning all

After a couple of absolute shockers in recent weeks I went into sundays bounce game with my regular PP hoping for some improvement.... standing on the 9th tee I'd already amassed 21 points. Sombrero was being readied for my return to the club house.

I then caught my hybrid in the turf on my tee shot and twinged something half way up my forearm...... I blobbed the next 4 holes.

I managed to get back on track and scored 14 points on the back 9. If only.

Anyone else have a worldie?

This is so close to my round on Saturday... I haven't got an injury as an excuse though. I had 21pts on the front nine with two blobs... I then blobbed anothet two on the back an still finished with 38pts... I have buffered in the last 3 comps and feel like I am getting better just cant have those true hacker moments!

Keep dreaming of what the cut could have been but also feel I have avoided an embarassing win ha

I have 'if only' rounds quite often. Sometimes if only I had stayed in bed, sometimes if only I hadn't had a cricket score on some part of the back 9.

Best example is a comp at Bearwood Lakes, when I was playing off 9. Front 9, hit almost every fairway and green in regulation, and had about 5 decent birdie putts. Made 2 of them to stand 2 under gross (could have easily been 3 or 4) after 9, 6 or 7 under nett (I forget where the stroke 9 hole was) for 24 or 25 points. Had a fine sausage sandwich with HP sauce at the halfway hut, then double bogeyed the 10th and it all went to pot after that. It was obviously all due to the sausage sandwich, so I have been a bit wary of them ever since.

Many other examples of not quite as good but still pretty decent front 9 scores frittered away on the back.

I played a knockabout round just for a pint in the middle of the summer,3 of us all genuine handicaps and I finished last with 41 points.

My mate had 51 points and 30 after 9 not sure ill see something like that again.

if only it hadn't taken 4 and 3/4 hours on saturday (for a roll-up 4-ball:() I might not have got quite so fed up, lazy and ended up hitting 5 s****s on the last hole.

If only I hadn't 3 putted 7 times on the front 9 (Only once on the back 9 thankfully) I may have been in with a chance considering the high winds we were playing in. Managed 27 pts despite my putting woes. Every one of those putts from on the green, if I include the ones putted from just off it would look even worse.

Shot 78 (par 70) 2 weeks back, which is good for me. But I started with double, bogey, bogey, double due to lack of warmup. Also left 4 birdie putts bang on line but in the jaws, only made 1 birdie.
It was my best round in a while but what could have been...!!

Every round I play is an "if only" one, usally as follows.

"If only I'd stayed in bed I wouldn't be out here annoying myself with this stupid game."

My 'if only' was a couple of weeks back in a medal. 6 over through 18 (net -6) and when I looked back through the card I found 3 double bogeys!

Last Monday shot 42 points. I could no wrong. After realising I sat on the 17th shaking like a leaf. Snap hook into the trees! Managed an 8! Only blob though so still very happy!

Always say golf karma has a way of reigning you in when your playing well. My society HC is 12 (no club golf at the moment) and quite often, in my (reasonably) regular casual midweek game, I am only 3 or 4 over around the 14th / 15th and somehow manage to have a blow up hole that brings me right back in line with where I should be.

My problem is, I always follow a bad shot with a few more and end up with a couple of doubles on the card.

After 16 holes of a medal, I was the equivalent of 4 under my hcp.

Stuck my second shot on 17 into deep greenside bunker right under the lip.
Took 4 shots to get out and was so annoyed that I then 4 putted to score 10 on a par 4.
FC asked was I protecting my handicap- barely spoke to her for the remaining hole.

Ended up in buffer.

My first ever comp which was a medal a couple of months ago and I was flying. Stood on the 14th tee +5 over. All I needed was 5 pars to score a net 61 which would of won by 7 shots if I remember correctly. I went double bogey, double bogey, quadruple bogey, bogey and last hole hit 3 balls off the tee into the woods on the right and then gave up and put NR. Gutted. Someone had the cheek to say I done it on purpose to protect my handicap. Nearly knocked him Into next week the cheeky chap. Knew he was kidding like but there was some malice behind.

A couple of Saturdays back I was out 2 under gross, 23pts. I then birdied 10 to go to 26pts. A 1pt on 11 - its a tough hole so not too bad. Tee shot on the par 3 12th into the water, and a blob. I then par'd to the 18th tee, and was sitting on 39pts. Tee shot on 18, a par 4 on which I got a shot, went a bit right. A decent lie but with a small tree, 10ft high, in front of me.

I decide to play safe and try and force a wedge as close to the green as possible, the front being 138yds away. The shot finishes about 3yds short of the green, and the flag is on the front. Do I putt it, giving me a certain 5 for 2pts and maybe 3pts, or do I chip it over the recently hollow tined apron?

Out comes the sand wedge, which I promptly double hit... damn, oh well, 2 putts for a point... double damn and 3 putts for another blob!!

42pts won, and my 39pts(3 over par) was nowhere.

You should get used to that kind of thing at RAGC, those last four holes are notoriously difficult to navigate.

The 16th and 17th is a killer if you've got a bit of the lefties off the tee. I sneak back over in the woods in the dark picking all my balls up. The 15 th if you can reach the ditch off the tee it's a good eagle putt opportunity (or triple bogey) :)

Was one over par standing on the 16th tee at St Andrews New. Last three hole were all down wind and I had visions of a par round. bogey, double, bogey.:(

Was one over par playing last at Blackmoor shortly after I joined, and finished with a double.

Think my chances of a par round have gone now.
