As most of my friends are only into football and ban me from talking about golf....... I wanted to share my joy with someone - so I'll share it with you fine people.

I managed to shoot 86 today! My previous best was 89.

My first round back in June was around 120-130. I had no lessons, no driving range practice or anything (quite stupid really).

I've worked my socks off in trying get to an 18 handicap. I've had some lessons, some good and some bad. I've also watched loads of golf clips on Youtube to try and learn as much as possible.

I think I might have done better if it wasn't for my playing partner shooting 125 and as he's been playing for 3 years, he thought he should have been doing better so he was losing his temper and throwing putter on the greens (I had to tell him not to do it at one point because he made a big divot on the green which isn't on).

My target of being off single figures by the time I'm 30 (5 years), is hopefully a realistic target for me.

I hope everyone else had a great day on the course!

Nice one mate, sounds like you have been rewarded for time and effort :)
Have you played in many comps since starting in June?

I had my best round on friday, shot 90 so if i can do it more often then i might manage it lol

well done

Thank you all.

I've played in 6 comps since June Noble.

I shot 90 for the first time only a few weeks ago, so I'm sure you too will be in the 80's before you know it.

I need to try and do it consistently now, something that will be very tough. But come summer time, I'm hopping to be able to shoot 85 fairly often.

I can't wait till the summer and get in the comps again, i've played in 4 last year and didn't do well at all but now i have a bit more playing experience i hope to gradually get the handicap down.

Nice shooting mate.

I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with a couple of bad holes ( 4 out of sand!!!! and a 4 putt on back to back holes) and managed to card a 2 over handicap 92! Greens had been hollow tine'd and definitely affected my putting today but I have no excuse for the sand adventure especially after a lesson late last year :(

Spending next week in the sand trap on the practice area

Thats a great achievment considering the time youve been playing, try to get out with people of your standard or slightly better ability and your game will improve further.

I'd point out that if he does things like that he needs to find a new playing partner. Sorry but I can't stand people like that... especially ones who shoot 125!

Well done on your score :)

It is very distracting at times. I can understand him being frustrated but there is certain line....

I only know the bloke through work and my problem is that I have no one else to play with.

All of my mates play football and will only play the odd round in the winter. Whereas I play football on the Saturdays and golf on Sundays.

.

There is when you miss a putt to win the Masters or even for a personal best, but not when you're chopping it round in 125. Even then you NEVER damage the green.. just lob your club in the lake or snap it across your knee! :)

He needs to man up!

I have a friend like this also. Used to play with us week in week out, but rarely see him now.

Throws his club after a poor tee shot. Grunt in frustration after poor iron shots. Regularly shoots 110+.

Yet..........

The guy doesn't practice. Plays infrequently. Has changed nothing in his swing (despite it not working). Won't eve consider lessons...... And he wonders why he's not getting better?

I just ignore his little tantrums and walk on.

This bloke does practice quite a lot but he just practices the wrong things and then wonders why he plays so badly.

I definitely need a new playing partner, especially with the summer fast approaching.

I've always had enough mates but I'm gonna need to find some new golf buddies!

Firstly well played. Secondly well done for pulling your mate up. Does your club not have roll up events you can join in (sometimes called swindles or greedies). Ask your pro if there any and try and get a game that way. Are your comps drawn. If so get your name down as they are the best way of meeting other members. If I was you, the quicker you can find someone of a better standard the better as I think this guy is holding you back and dragging you back to his level. Better players will help and you feed off how well they play and seemingly play better (and you'll pick up some tips). I never like to say if anyone will reah a certain standard in a fixed time (well unless its 28-scratch in a year ) but keep working and I'm sure you'll get down to a respectable figure.
