Hi guys, I just wanted write a quick recommendation on Bob Rotella - his books have changed everything for me. I've struggled with keeping a smile on my face on the golf course since I started and I was definitely a choker in comps or under any sort of pressure. Since finishing 'Golf is not a game of perfect' I've shot 5 rounds under handicap and 1 exactly to handicap and 2 of those were in comps (shot net 67 in the medal yesterday).

I'm really pleased with the results and the way I think on the golf course now, bad shots don't bother me - I've learned to just accept them.

Get reading chaps, it's well worth it.

Seconded, "Golf is not a game of perfect" is a great anecdotal book of help. I cant remember half of what was written so may have another read but some of it did stick and seems to have helped.

Yes - if you've read them all it gets a bit hard, and you have to like his writing style (which i unfortuantely dont) BUT there are 2 or 3 things i have taken from him that are highly subjective/mental rather than technical that made (and continue to make) a huge difference to my golf e.g.

- it doesnt matter if you miss a putt ; so when you approach the putt, of course you want it to go in, but it doesn matter if it doesnt; so relax, smile and set teh putt on its way. Takes away huge amounts of tension

and

- pick a target on drives, not just a tree, not even a branch on a tree, but an individual leaf on teh tree in the distance; what thsi does is focus your mind on accuracy, and also gives you excellent immediate feedback on whether you are pushing or pulling yoru shots

Very good

Read this and it does help in not getting angry with bad shots, it doesnt stop the bad shots though...

I think this is the main thing I took from the book. Understanding and accepting you will hit bad shots is key. They happen, it's not the end of the world. The important thing is to forget about it and focus on your next shot.

I read Putting it out of your Mind last year and it really made a big difference to my game
I now have a pre-putt routine and 3-putts are definately the exception rather than the rule.

Why are you aiming for the trees? Surely the fairway would be a much better option? :p

I suspect he means a leaf on a which is tree out of range - which means he has eyes like a hawk because everyone on this forum drives 325+ yards!

I like his stuff but like others have said they can be a bit samey and different books have the same points dressed up with different anecdotes. They do help though and I've certainly become a little more lenient on myself when I hit a bad shot or miss a putt as a result

Wow Homer. What were you like before then? (lol)
I've got a set of his CDs and found quite a lot of what he says helpful (although I should be well overdue for a 'Dr Bob refresh'

I got this on audiobook today and its very good!! well very interesting. I have laughed several times as the whole golfers mentality thing is clearly very deep.
