I was at work yesterday and a mate asked if I fancied a round at his local council course after work. I had only played on the Sunday but I was brimming with enthusiasm since I had only picked up my new shineys a few days before So I agreed.

I had a nightmare after work running around and sorting out food etc so I was a bit harassed by the time I got there. I tee'd one up on the first as lost it in the sun and neither of my playing partners watched where it went either so that was lost already!!

From there on it got progressivly worse including me finding myself in what can only be described as a bog in the 1st cut!

There was people playing in blue jeans, Working boots and Celtic tops, people in bermuda shorts and flip flops and even people cutting through the course after being to the neighbouring Lidl!

The bunkers were terrible! There were HOUSE BRICKS in them and the sand was building sand and full off stones the size of eggs!

The tee's were just as bad, full of stones, smokers had just left their rubbish lying also.

there was a hole where a group of kids were having a longest drive competition and only had a driver between them!

I left after the 8th because I couldn't take it anymore.

So even when it comes to golf courses it's true you only get what you pay for!

Not nice that you had a bad experience but its not the same for all council courses.

Some are very well run indeed and look after the place through good pro's, marshalls and members bein repsectful to the course meaning that visitors treat it the same.

But then there are others.................. But that can go for private clubs to!

Scoonie used to be quite nice. Played there many years ago and had a good day.

There was people playing in blue jeans, Working boots and Celtic tops, people in bermuda shorts and flip flops and even people cutting through the course after being to the neighbouring Lidl!

Ah they joys of Muni golf. Wait until after the Open and try it again...... ;)

Everyone has to start somewhere though.

Birmingham has some really good council courses and are places I always take people who are starting out (as I did)

Some of them on a weekend you just need to expect a 5 hour round... you also cant underestimate anything happening... I really do have some stories!

The top 1 must be one told by another lad who uses this forum who I have a game with when we can... He was out early and as he got close to the green he noticed there was no flag in it... Hit the middle of the green with his approach and walked on to find the actual hole.

When he got there a piece of paper was held down by a rock with the words "DONT PUTT OUT... S££T IN CUP!"

I always laugh about that, for what reason drunk or otherwise would you think... I have an idea???

Poor greekeeper who had to clean that up!
