So a couple of weeks ago 6 of us (3 members and 3 visitors) met up at my local club to play 2 3balls. Queued at the 1st tee at 9:30am with 3 groups of 3 in front of us waiting to tee. Our first group then teed off no prob and when my group was about to tee (ball was on the tee on the ground), a lady walked up to us and said its 10am (bang on 10am it was) and the tee box was closed till 10:45 and couldn't tee off. I am a member and I was pissed! I tried reasoning but the old lady was having none of it. I was there arguing with her but all she kept saying was it was on the notice board.

I noticed her when we were queuing up, so she knew we had 2 groups. So my question was why wont she just let us tee off quickly? Its not as if we would have slowed down play.

So we had no choice but to stand down and let the ladies tee off. The first group of ladies took a further 5 minute to get ready to tee off!!!! I was livid!!! We could have been on the green by now.

Any body ever had issues with ladies of their local club??

At my club you're not allowed to tee off during the alloted ladies tee times even if there are no women on the bloody grounds !That's a total waste of the course.

If you were ready to go and the fairway was clear and the first ladies group weren't ready, then I would say it's a bit petty. Play on.
However, if the tee booking was on the board and you knew they had it booked, you should have got there earlier.
How would you like it if you were walking towards the first tee to play a comp and 3 old ladies were waiting to tee off.

Played at Copthorne the other week with James, Richart and Richarts mate Jeremy.
James hadn't checked the club diary properly ( ) and there was a big competition going off the first tee which would have meant an hours wait before we could go off. The assistant pro suggested quickly nipping round to the 10th tee and going off from there, but added that we would have to be sharpish because there was a ladies match already out on the course and they were due to get round to the tenth fairly soon. It was a foursomes match consisting of only 3 groups, but knowing how the ladies react we knew we had to act fast.
We nipped round to the tee and when we got there the first of the ladies matches were half way down the 9th fairway, approaching the green.
Their faces when they saw us appear on the tee in front of them were a picture, and immediately the two ladies who weren't actually playing their shots at the time steamed up to the green and let us know, in no uncertain terms, that we weren't pushing in in front of them.
To add to that, the ladies captain mysteriously appeared from behind some bushes and immediately let us know who she was, and again told us that we couldn't push in.
Understandable I know, but it was the speed in which it happened that surprised me. I've seen slower snake strikes!!

Was it case of times running late?
If you've signed in, your guests have paid and you've been told to go then that elusive beast "Common Sense" needs to take over.
If times are running over , you have a 9.52 time, you get the tee and there are 2 groups waiting , do you push to the front saying it's your time?
Of course not.
Idiotic application of rules like this just put people off playing. Would it have hurt if they'd let you go?
Bunch of mindless jerks who'll be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

A group of us visited St Mellion a few years ago. First round we were playing the old course (not the Nicklaus) and had the 1st tee booked for 2.00pm. We made our way down the the tee at about 1.45 and there was a group on the green but the tee was clear other than for us hanging around. The first of our group waited until a couple of minutes to 2 and stepped up onto the tee. As the first one was about to tee off, 3 ladies came out from behind the clubhouse, made their way down to the tee and asked what time we were due off. "2pm" came the reply. "Well, we've got the tee booked at 1.50" they said, "so we're off now"
"Tough. You've missed it. You're behind us now"
They didn't like it, but we did.

The Ops experience is a perfect example of why the tee should be closed to general play at a predetermined time before the competition was due to start. i.e. fifteen minutes beforehand.

Unfortunately a reaction like the one described is what gets ladies a bad name.

Dont get me started on another rant haha .. in fairness i think there are men like that too. & most times it is the more established members should i call them .. gets messy in our place if we late starting because of frost . the times on the sheet before the course opens are lost , so say your away at 9.55 & course doesnt open til 10 we some times get the 9.45 tee time q'n up .. doesnt bother me too much if it only a group or 2 coz it only represents 30 mins.. but we have some members who must work off GMT & if your 10seconds late through your own fault or not , there is always an issue

If the slugs were not ready to play away at exactly 10am then you should have teed off.

If they were ready to tee off at 10am and it was an official comp and you were only general play then you would have to give way.

As said before if the shoe was on the other foot and you were ready to tee off in an official comp at 10am and the slugs were in front of you waiting for a general play what would you have said to them?

We close our tees 15 minutes beforehand for matches and comps. It just means (in theory) there is a nice gap then for the first group out. Doesn't always work as we don't operate booking times and so can roll up and you often get a fourball chancing their arm of getting out first.

We have a few women members who must wait until the split second before mysteriously appearing almost from nowhere to whinge that they are in a comp and have the tee booked. Usually though we let them moan and just say we're quicker and carry on

I'm not surprised you were livid!! But we live and learn. I think if that should arise again in future your response should be "And are you all ready to tee off right now?", If the answer is anything other than "Yes, this very instant" then politely point out that you'll be off the green by the time they are teeing up their ball and practising their swing!

Maybe also pointing out that in these times of equality it is sexist to reserve time on the tee exclusively for women!!!

Now at the risk of playing devil's advocate, did you know that the tee was closed from 10am? Because if you did, and she was there when you were queuing up, might it have been a good idea to wander over and say, "I know the tee's closed from 10, but there's six of us, and it looks like it's slowing up, so would you object if we tee off behind our first group if it does go beoynd 10, please?".

Many lady members are made to feel like 2nd class golfers at their own clubs, so some get very defensive and always feel they have to fight hard. I'm not saying that's always right, but I can understand where some of their issues come from.

When did it get to that stage when you have to book a tee time at your local course? I was willing to wait my turn but she was being (please excuse the language) a b**ch!
