Budget is limited, < £50.00 as I've just splashed out on an electric trolley and bag.
Handicap is 15, but could be 3 shots lower if I could improve my putting (it's pi** poor).

My current putter is a sentimental thing that my kids bought me as a birthday present hence my reluctance to get rid.
But it is a 'cheap' thing that is really not great for putting, so I've decided to change it.
Any recommendations apart from lessons? (These will come later in the year).

I don't mind second hand, just need something I can feel confidence in.

Iv just been looking at putters over the past couple of days and would say really it's a feel thing. But for your budget you can pick up some of the older odyssey model putters second hand, the white hot xg 1 was a favourite of mine, but there are various 2 ball, mallets and counter balance in your budget second hand. Few of the Wilson ones I tried also felt nice. Get yourself in a shop and see what feels good in your hands, have a knock with it and then trawl the Internet for the model you like. Ebay normally comes up trumps,

Should be able to pick up a Wilson staff infinite putter for around that.
Good counter balanced putter at reasonable prices.

Best if you can try though, putters are very personal things.

What sort of style are you looking for ?

Going to a mallet gave me a lot of confidence and helped keep the face square

You can get a TM Corza or Spider on eBay for a good price

Try before you buy so don't recommend e-bay. See what your range/club has or try a high street retailer and hit a few putts

Currently using one of the Infinite putters

Were some ads for Cleveland smart square recently for good price.

Putters are personal to your own eye and stroke. Very hard to subjectively suggest something as it may not suit which is why I always try a putter first. Made too many duff purchases via internet on something that didn't suit or feel right

There must be a reason why just about every putter manufacturer makes their own copy of the Ping Anser

I got a new one the other day after a fitting. Really opened my eyes to the different stats you can get. I found out that odyssey and TM putters are narautally lower lofted.... Golf bidder have a good range. Can go wrong with an old 2 ball imo:)

I agree with Homer. You can't buy a putter without trying first. You have no idea how it plays for you. On the other hand it is hard to find a second hand one that really suits you as no where has an extensive stock of second hand putters. I bought one off ebay that works brilliantly for me so I was lucky. The way I did that was to try putters of guys I knew. Also this one was still available new so tried it in a store. Finally I found a deal on ebay that meant if I didn't get on with it then I wouldn't lose money selling it on.

There are a number of second hand stores on ebay, rather than use their buy it now email or call the place and negotiate. I have always ended up with a better deal doing that (only done this twice though!).

Alternatively go in and try. These guys are local to me http://www.golfclubs4cash.co.uk/ no idea where you are based but if you have something similar it may be worthwhile. P.S. only ever sold to these guys, never bought as they seem to charge quite a bit more than I'd be willing to pay!

I bought a second hand Odyssey White Ice Teron putter on ebay for about £30. It's a wonderful tool, and improved my putting significantly. Of course, that doesn't mean it would suit you. Buying any putter is a risk, as even if you try one in a shop, it doesn't mean that you will get on with it long term. Firstly, I would advise you suss out whether you want a longer or shorter shaft, and then if you want a blade or a mallet head. You also need to know if you put square, or out to in. Once you have figured that out, spend your money on a second hand good quality putter, rather than buying a new inferior one.

How's your putting coming along WWG? You sorted it out so you're less than 1.5 a hole yet?

Very kind of you to ask. As it happens, I claimed an average of 1.6, and later revoked the claim after working out it was 1.8. As it happens, shortly afterwards my putting went right down the toilet, but is now back to scratch. I have now gone 36 holes without 3 putting, and my average is about 1.8 again. Petty the rest of game is still crap !!

You have to go try the different sorts to find out what works for you.(this is over a very long year period or try and error, and was a bit stupid myself not trying out lots of different putters)

I started with a blade putter, loved the look of them etc. But for the life of me could not line them up for a putt or make a good stroke with it at all. (still the same when I have a go at crazy golf and you get them silly flat hammer like putters)

Then went to a semi mallet size thing (ping darby), I could make a stroke with that, but my alignment and control was still rubbish.

Then went and got the original 2 ball white hot putter when released, changed my putting unbelievably at the time. I could control the putt very well, make a good stroke but still alignment was not 100% for me but lived with it. (shot single figures/under par with this putter, so putting was not bad as such, just it didn't go always were I thought I was aiming, normally right of target).

Anyway a few months ago, I tried my sons new putter that I did not like, but it had a long straight line(a few inches) as alignment and noticed I could actually line up the putts as I saw them.

So I purchased an Odyssey Works 2ball Fang lined putter, which has changed my putting(alignment, control and strike is now how I see it).

Ideally go and try loads of different style putters at a shop and see what works for you, there are so many choices and it is amazing the difference a different putter can make(style, weighting, alignment etc)

Hope that helps, all the best
