Hi all,

I know it's a bit of a strange thing to say. A lot of the good players I have played with say they like quick greens and I did really enjoy playing the fast greens on the PGA course at the Belfry this summer.

The club was closed all last week and when we got out yesterday the greens were hairy and slow. I immediately got on pace with them, it was nice to give a putt some life. 27 putts and has to be my lowest and a few lip outs to boot.

Wonder what it is that makes the long greens make me more confident. Anyone else enjoy slow greens?

Our greens are alow all year round. Type if grass apparently

I'm with you in preferring slow to fast greens as I feel I can make a more confident stroke without the balls getting a way from me.

Less break too. Aim straight and smash it.

it will be because you are accelerating into the putt Alex, on fast/very fast greens it's so easy to decelerate due to the speed.

Next time you are on fast greens, shorten your backswing and smoothly accelerate

27 putts, think I'll just play winter golf on slow greens!:)

Ye for sure this must be a factor. I will have a little play!

I hate slow greens, lets hope theyve got em cut by the time Im back out there playing lol.

Wd Al (ps the comment about decelerating is correct but am sure weve discussed this before, length of backswing the main determinant!), what about the rest of the game? Good score?

I don't mind slow greens as long as they are true but it's a hell of a shock when you turn up at a course that has fast greens as I don't read them properly having got used to very little break on slow greens.

Are you on the mend?

Considering, the course looked amassing! I guess they are protecting the greens plus hard to get a mower to them.

Ironing out that hook and hit a lot of shots with no shape, took me by surprise to start with and spent a lot of time chipping on the right side of the green. Up and down lots, 83, happy with it, great battle with Tom, brilliant sunshine, pared five of the last six, I'll sleep well this week.

Re the putting stroke, yep, we have talked about it, maybe this will give me the impetus to do something about it.

Good golf mate :) Yeah I expect Lukes pulling his hair out with the weather and not able to get the mower on them.

Ankles a fair bit better, pretty much got full use back now, tempted to go and try and hit some half and maybe three quarter shots tomorrow and see how it reacts, probably rushing it a little but climbing the walls

Slow greens allows people to give it a good rap at the hole without worrying too much about the break

i hate slow greens - nothing more fun than getting the squity feeling before a put and knowing that slightly low (etc) means a big problem!!:D

With your dodgy stroke I would have thought you would prefer treacle greens.

Mind you playing on the Bearwood Lakes greens explains why you have got the chipping yips.

Ours are slow all year every year and I hate them. I end up putting better at away comps with faster greens than my own that I play every week
