I dont know if it should be addressed to the bossman, the mods or whether it's none of my business.

'Should/can a mod pull a thread because he 'thinks' it will get out of hand or should they only react when and if it does'?

I'm referring to Smiffy's post about Homer which as far as I know didn't break any rules.
Or are we not 'allowed' to discuss anything of this nature in an open thread?

Usually a post is reported by or to the mod panel Bob.

The contents of the post are then discussed between moderators and a course of action is decided.

Quite often, we will let a thread run, but in some cases where the topic of the thread is sensitive we will simply watch the thread a little more closely.

Regarding the specific thread you reference in your OP. Generally discussing bans, whether temporary or permanent on the forum pages usually leads to further escalations.

The simple fact a user has been given a temporary or permanent ban shouldn't really need dragging out or be the subject of debate on the main boards in my honest opinion. It often leads to conjecture as to the nature of the ban and it's causes which, again can lead to escalations.

If anyone has a query as to what's happened with regards to a specific user or a particular thread, they are more than welcome to PM me and, without going into great detail, will help where I can.

I think we need to remember that we are all big boys and girls on here. If someone says or does something against the rules of the forum, infractions will probably follow and they alone are responsible for it. Starting threads asking what happened serves no real purpose other than to fan flames of those that want to add their tuppence.
Noone is under any sort of obligation to post so when they do, the GM staff ask that it is in a friendly polite manner that goes with the image they portray with the magazine.

With that said, rarely does anyone get infractions or bans without being warned at least once before plus a second infraction for failing to heed advice. The guys in question weren't the first, probably wont be the last but we have to try to maintain some kind of decorum when threads start getting out of hand.

As G said though, if in doubt give one (or more) of us a pm and we can try to clarify.
