I've got/had a load of phone numbers in my phone covering years and years. I've also had numerous email accounts on it also but since retiring and closing down my businesses some email accounts were no longer being used.

So a simple click into settings and deleted an email I hadn't used for months and hey presto, every single phone number contact has gone

Absolute nightmare

surely you have them backed up to the sim or to a computer?

syncing with a google account an easy way to ensure future safety ;)

My main email is a Gmail address and I've added loads of numbers since not using the other company email address and Sky address and yet everything, the whole shabang has gone!

If you go into your gmail account on a pc are none of the contacts saved in there?

No everything has gone! Rob just rang me so I saved his number and its now in my phone and in my Gmail account all on its own when I just checked. Its simply cleaned me out

Its a HTC Sensation, just noticed all my calender dates (appointments/meets/matches) are gone also!

I only removed what I believed to be a dormant email address, I wouldn't know that everything was linked to that to be honest, how could I?

Unfortunately I've zilch experience with the phone/os but I guess its android, and as the android fanboys are quick to point out, it's the superior os, so I'd guess it'd be clear which email was holding contacts and calendar details. It is in iOS ;)

Found this:

How to Sync Emails, Contacts and Calendars
The Android system allows you to operate and sync your emails, contacts, calendars and other items using multiple accounts. You can set your accounts to sync these items on your device with the servers automatically or manually.
Run the Settings app, select 'Accounts & sync' under PERSONAL.
At the top, tap to switch the 'Accounts & sync' to 'ON' for automatic syncing, or 'OFF' for manual syncing.
When the 'Accounts & sync' is switched off, you can touch an account and sync contacts or other items manually—either touch an item to sync or tap the Menu button then 'Sync now' to sync all items. The last synced date and time are shown below each item.

Fish. Have you checked to see if your contacts are saved to your SIM Card. If they are you will be able to retrieve them.

First thing I did, I've lost everything!

I can't ignore any calls now, you know those ones you give the big thumb to

Is it phone like a Samsung that has an Android system. If it is it may have the option enabled that saves data to the internet so it can be retrieved.

No its all gone, been everywhere and all over it like a rash.

Started to reload numbers and dates now but through my Gmail so its on my PC as well as my phone. No reason to delete anything else now so shouldn't happen again.

It's not much use now, but in future use an app called Zoota to back up/edit your contacts, then if there's a problem with your phone (or if you get a new phone) simply download them.

So let me get this right, you deleted one of your email addresses that was linked to your mobile and it wiped all your contacts etc?

Yes, even though I hadn't used that email addy for over 7 months and had added many new contacts, I wasn't aware that my phone contacts only were linked in that way, and, I suppose a lot of mere normal mortals like me, don't either!
