Just been hitting a few balls on the range at my local american golf when the fella i had a few lessons with in the past noticed by ping g5's that i bought second hand since my lessons (standard clubs).

He asked me if i'd mind if he talked me through the fitting process and swiftly proceeded to do so.

After putting some special tape on the bottom of my club and making me stand straight and put my hands by my side next to a Ping measuring board he then got me to take a couple of shots, hitting a ball of this black board.

Anyway as he predicted before I had swung the club the toe of my club was hitting the ground on impact instead of the bottom of the club. I explained that my bad shots were a slice or too much turf and he told me that this could be the reason why.

Basically I need them 3degrees upright, a 1/4 of an inch longer, and he also suggested having a layer of tape under the grip as i have long fingers.

Will this make a huge difference to my game as i'm now hoping that this will give a bit more consistency once i have them done.

Definitely worth doing, either have your current irons retro fitted or get a new set. I haven't looked back since getting my fitted G10s.

Whats to lose ?

I got fitted for my Zings many years ago, and went back to have them and my swing checked later on too. Free service from Ping so make use of it.

:-)

If it is as much as 3 degrees then you really need to think about taking him up and getting fitted otherwise you will end up making compensations in your swing which will lead to inconsistency

Thanks lads, i'm going to ring ping tomorrow and get myself booked in for a fitting. Anyone know how long they keep your clubs for?

Well my pro's going to sort them for me. he's charging me a small fee but they'll be done the same day.

So they'll be sorted by the weekend.... cant wait!

I really should have posted my post in 'woods and drivers' in here instead, as its relevent to irons.
