The Grinder Of Pars (Semi Crocked)
Just popped into the range today , really just to see what was going on, but the Pros were sat around doing not much and I fancied hitting some Pings so they set up a fitting session there and then.
Got measured up and took i15's and S57's into the bay and started hitting away. A few adjustments here , a change of club spec there and a while later I had my specification - +1/2 inch in length, 2.25 degrees upright (green spot), stiff AWT shaft and a standard grip.
Of the 2 clubs the S57, although I liked the look, didn't really click. It had a DGS300 and, although it's supposed to launch lower than the i15. I hit it into the stratosphere! The i15 had a much better flight and dispersion and we all agreed that was the one.
They then told me the price for 5-pw, including changing the length/lies on my 3 wedges to match - £350.
Seeing as the best price online was Snainton at 389 but not including the fitting/changing wedges, I paid up on the spot. And the Sun was shining - well almost.
So, a week to 10 days time and I'll have my new sticks.
What I found most interesting is that 10 years ago I was fitted for i3's at a different range. I was given red dot(1deg flat) reg flex and length shaft . Now my swing speed has remained fairly steady in that time (85-88 with a 7iron) and my height hasn't changed either. So how the hell they managed to get the spec that different I don't know. I told the guys and they double checked to be sure. I now know why I never played well with the i3's.
They were completely wrong for me.
