I tried a few irons in american golf and with pro on range buy i wanted to try on course in a round before i committed to buying a set. I bought a titleist 712 ap1 and ap2 demo club adjustable (soon to be for sale cheap) one with a stiff shaft one with a regular. tried them in my rounds and decided what i really liked the best i find this a great way to get a feel for a club anyone else done this?

I bought a demo mizuno 6i for a fiver, put a training grip on it, and use it down the range. Better still, it's 1/2" longer than standard, and 2* upright, just my spec (yes, I have checked the spec, and compared it to my nikes, and titleists. It's perfect, for me).

Thats a really good idea

I borrowed a demo Ping G25 6 iron to try on the course to see how I got on with them and for some reason despite absolutely creaming them on the range I could not get on with them on the course. Tried a Ping i15 demo on the course, hit it beautifully and bought an as new second hand set which had been part ex'd for i20's.

I would have thought the G25's would have been better but the i15's worked better on the course.

It's funny I have TM cb's in xps300 and brought an identical 6i tout a raining grip on.... I've used it twice.

I've done it with drivers, putters and sets. Been quite disapointed in a couple of 'fittings' I've had (would you believe one pro looked at my current set and said "we'll just put the same shafts in the new set!!!)

so by buying older second hand stock, trying it out then reselling I get what I think suits me and it doesnt cost much, a few pounds in ebay fees really..

plus it's fun:lol:
