I birdied the 17th at Sawgrass during my lunch break!

Ok - so it was at Urban Golf in London, but still! What better use of my lunch break?

129 yards - an 8 iron (ahem, I mean half a 64 degree lob wedge...) safely to the back of the green, 29ft birdie putt never looked like missing!

In all seriousness though, Urban Golf is a decent bit of fun for a lunch break, doesn't compare with playing the real thing obviously, but then that's not an option when you work in a concrete jungle.

Don't you find you always need one or two clubs more at Urban Golf? Brilliant place though. Smash through the beers as you play a match and get ridiculously competitive!

Yes definitely an extra club or two, but it's consistent I think so you can figure it out after a hole or two.

It's superb fun and pretty good value too really - a Friday night is £25 an hour, so split four ways a couple of hours for £12.50 is good going.

The short game side of things is a little bit trickier, and judging putts and chips which require finesse is hard. But still, I can't imagine any way the simulation could be better than it is.

Also, a good tip I think is if you're playing with people who aren't terribly good, or even if they are this is probably still valid, matchplay is the way to go. It is possible to get stuck in some ridiculous positions (behind trees, up against vertical faces, deep in the bushes) that are basically impossible to get out of - matchplay makes it possible to move on rather than leaving three people to watch the fourth smash around in the foliage for an hour.

I'm interested in Urban Golf - I think there's one not far from me in Holborn!

Do you take your own clubs?
Pay by the screen per hour rather than per player?

I think you're right inbetween two cookelad - there's one near to me at smithfields (I'm just of fetter lane) and one in soho too.

No need to take your clubs, they are stocked with taylormade gear, a mix of rbz kit and burners from what i can tell - I prefer my own kit obviously, but there's does the job and beats hacking into London with clubs.

I would definitely recommend taking a glove though, their grips can be pretty worn.

Lunchtimes they do a deal £10 per person for an hour including a sandwich (a fairly average sandwich it has to be said) otherwise in the evenings you pay per simulator per hour - its £50 I think, but half price on Fridays.

Definitely a good laugh!
