Folks-

Can we stop jumping on everyone who places a for sale post without adding to the forum - I found the forum when selling my old clubs. Now I read and add to the forum everyday.

If I would have been jumped on as some have then I would have never graced the forum again.

Perhaps we should have a standard polite message as per Tony N

as good as your offer maybe, people wont buy from you because you are not part of the community, your wasting your time.

Bye!!!!

Plesent and simple enough to let potental members become members without really pissing potental members off.
I understand that there is scammers who are complte scum - but it does make us look like a complete closed community of stuck up old men - not my view but I can understand that others may view it as so.

Ken-A

I have to say that as one who has been known to give these spammers a piece of advice as to their wrong doings in a direct manner I can see where you are coming from and glad you came aboard.

I think the problem lies not with someone like you clearly wanting to sell his golfing equipment privately but twith these guys that come on with their websites, blogs etc and particularly those only faintly connected with golf. If they want to ply their trade they need to go through the sales team at GM like every other punter. I find them annoying and aggravating in the same way as getting spam in my private e-mail. Those that commit these "crimes" I have to say deserve the animosity they receive on here.

I do agree and as much as we may hate these scammers can one person just leave a polite sod off,it will also stop their posts bieing returned to the top and thus helping to get others to read their spam.

If I remember there was a post about mods - perhaps they should have a post tazer to zap the commercal ads.

Well said Ken_A.

It's more polite to ignore than abuse....but I have to say that some of the put-downs for these guys from our fellow forumers have been priceless !!

I like the banter we have and as current champion look forward to the challenge of fending off the next spammer.

As a fairly recent addition to this community, I disagree that it appears to the outsider to be comprised of stuck up old men. On the contrary, I have felt more welcome on this forum than I probably deserve!

As for the spammers.....

I think it's important to make the distinction between "private advertisers" i.e individuals who seek to enter into individual transactions with other individuals and the other type of advertisers who are clearly trying to market multiple items to multiple forummers or promote their own business ventures.

The forum has a clearly defined place for "private advertisers" and my observation thus far is that they are made more than welcome here and invited to participate in the wider community - as per Ken_A 's experience.

As for the other kind of advertiser , I not only endorse the other forummers who take delight in telling them where to get off, I will actively participate and will treat it as a most entertaining sport.

In fact, I hope to win a medal in the next Olympics for it! :D

I am fine with private advertisers, fair play to anybody trying to sell their unwanted gear as this is what it is for.

It is the spammers and profiteers that get my back up and tbh I like to give them a bit of stick as they are hijacking the forum for improper use.

Reading this post back, I have just realised that, as a leading advocate of spammer rebuttal ( a Master Baiter, if you like!) I have inadvertently allowed myself to be be baited!!!! :o :o

Ken_A - You are a crafty devil and I salute you! :D

something that may satisfy Ken_A's gentlemanly instincts and perhaps encourage our ladies to participate in an equal opportunity sport is to encourage the 'artistic impression' element of the put-down.

wit, wisdom, poetry and prose rather than the, admittedly satisying, dose of the verbals.

all entries to be scored out of 10?

Anybody who comes in with a first post sell surely knows they’re running the gauntlet. I’ve now posted a good few times and I’ve still not got the guts to say I have a great condition 04, 54 plate VW passat TDI full VW history, 79K, cam belt done, new MOT……for sale. Nothing to do with golf, but the boot is great for a couple or more sets of clubs. Or a deed boady. :o

Ah found the start of the Spammer thread.
Spammers I just ignore no need to get the blood pressure up.
if its a genuine seller ok, if a spammer just set up ignore option. easy peasy
have a few photo's of Queen Victoria for a ten bob note.[goons]

LOL!! :D

Aye! Passats are great for that.
A Focus or Astra's nae guid. :(
Ye can get yer clubs in but ye need tae take yer Driver oot.
Ye can get a boady in but ye need tae cut the heed aff.
Ah've goat a Galaxy - it'll take a deed fitba team !!( and aw their clubs) :D

lol @ this thread, I just read the fellas post and to be honest he did have a very very small point and that was there are no rules stating you can not sell anything other than golf gear, also on that note most gear sold on there that ends up on EBay gets sold for a lot cheaper on EBay than offered to forum members.
