Presidents day better ball stapleford comp today. My partner and I had a great round of 41 points, enough to be joint leader when we got in. So I hand my card over to the scorekeeper and as I am walking out he asks if my partner contributed to the at all on the front 9 and I said he had. Transpires that, as my partner and I had the same handicap, the person scoring our card just put all the best scores in one column for the front 9 thinking it did not matter. He then saw how I was scoring their card and changed for the back 9 to score it correctly. Being an idiot, I looked at the part of the card not folded over as our cards are tri fold, saw the final scores were correct and signed it. That will teach me not to check the card fully in future. DQ.

Unlucky mate - we have all done something similiar no doubt

Our committee guys would have usually asked 'are you sure you want to hand me this card as is it now?' ... which implies the obvious, 'you idiot check it again before you give it back to me'

Of course if your marker has already scarpered then your no better off, but at least it would have given you a chance.

Ours would do the same on days like club championship and captains day but usually they go in the box and you're responsible for checking it before it goes in. To carry the idiot thread on, playing the 138 yard 8th, I wanted to hit 7. Pulled it out of my bag, stood there thinking this doesn't look right but hit it anyway. Hit a tree ten yards over the back full on which saved me. Looked at the bottom.....4 iron. Muppet

Like Gibbo, you really do need to take responsibility for your own actions. Shame for him as that was good scoring.

I've been known to pull out my SW for a bunker shot, address the ball, and then realise its my 5 iron:rolleyes:
Although I should probably hit it, probably got more chance of getting it out with the 5!

Out of interest, can someone point me in the direction of the rules for marking better ball cards. I can find reference to making it clear that the score that counts is identifiable but in a situation where both members of a team have identical handicaps and the gross scores recorded for the team are accurate but not recorded under the correct team member I could not find the correct ruling. Would like to have it to hand for future reference.

31-3. Scoring
The marker is required to record for each hole only the gross score of whichever partner’s score is to count. The gross scores to count must be individually identifiable; otherwise, the side is disqualified. Only one of the partners need be responsible for complying with Rule 6-6b.
