Why would it need to be changed?

The hole size is standard, it's the same the world over. There is no need to change it.

You don't seem to listen to other peoples opinions and try saying the same thing over and over again in different ways to try to get people to agree with you.

The hole does not need to be changed. Let's leave it that yea?

As I said, it's a hypothetical question. Just wondered what size people would choose given a choice in re-designing the game. :)

Why are you bothering. We play golf within the confines of the rules as they are laid out in front of us and whether you agree with them or not that's the way it is. Get over it, accept them and move on. Hypothetical or not, they ain't changing the hole size anytime soon and to be honest none of us really care about you wanting to revolutionise the whole shooting match. Where's the who cares option?

Which really means....

'If I get my way it counts; if I don't get my way it doesn't count'!

I bet someone else always brought another ball when you played as a kid!

give it a rest geez we get your point we just dont agree with it

Totally agree!

You can't fundamentally change the game just because you're rubbish at putting.

Just put some practice in:D

I'm actually quite good at putting, averaging about 32 putts per round without having a particularly good short game. I still get the occasional annoying lip-out or horseshoe, which a slightly larger hole might help to prevent. :)

The other argument is that the current sized hole often doesn't reward a good shot into the green with a birdie. Generally speaking you have to be within 3 feet to have a 95% of holing the putt, dropping to 50% at 6 feet and then almost exponentially down after that. Suppose two players hit shots into the green to 5 yards (a good shot) and to 15 yards (a poor shot). The chances are that both players will two-putt and no differentiation achieved.

I've seen you've got an agenda

I just don't understand your reasoning, a few days ago weren't you posting about modern equipment making the game too easy?

Whilst at the same time having an agenda that revolves around.....making the game easier!!

Are you a little confused ??;)

Give it a rest del, you know you're the only one here that thinks it needs changing. Keep banging on about it isn't going to change anyone's mind

3 days left, excited to see the results of this one.

Early exit poll shows nobody wants it changed, except for one vote (I wonder who that might be)

The hole is the hole, it doesn't need to be made bigger.

The hole size is what it is because a green keeper at Musselburgh links made a hole cutter out of a piece of discarded iron drain pipe of that size in 1829! Would we consider that to be optimal or not if we were re-designing the game from scratch? We do know that the current size does cause problems, such as older players developing the yips due the amount of pressure involved in putting out into such a small hole. :mmm:

Had a similar discussion at my old club about the number of bunkers a course should have. As the discussion became a little heated it became clear from several members that, quote "the course is too hard." But your handicap takes that into account was the reply...

As for the current lip outs that would drop, those that are currently an inch away would become your lip outs. Your handicap would drop and your nett score would end up being the same as it is now.

A question back at you. Do you think all the guys who've put in loads of work becoming better than average putters would welcome an increase in the size of the hole?

Now I must dash and change my trousers... wet myself over this one:D
