Is it just me or does anyone else not get hybrids.
By that I mean does anyone else struggle with them?
I'd rather hit my 3 iron off the tee and from the fairway if needs be.
I have tried lots of different one and none have really done it for me. I hear lots of folk saying they are great and pros saying they are so easy to use we all should have them so why don't I find that!
Please tell me I'm not alone.

Subbed mine out this year, flew too high to be useful round a links course, knockdowns turned into low hooks and I foolishly bought a taylormade one which was white, albeit not for long.

My thoughts on hybrids are well documented on here. Safe to say I'm no fan.

I do carry one though, purely as a gap filler between my 3 iron and 4 wood. My 19° 910 does that nicely.

I do have a tendency to hit quite a few border line hooks with it though. Like I prefer to hit long irons over hybrids.

I'm tempted to pull mine too.
It's a gap filler on paper but very rarely come out the bag when I'm on the course 1/2 times a month maybe lol.
I might try carrying 13 clubs a while.

not a big fan of long irons and I hit down too much and down have the power to smash them. I wouldn't rule out a long iron for links. you don't need to pure it to make it go a long way and running!

ive recently fallen out with my adams a12 pro 22 deg. hitting loads of hooks. it seems to sit a little closed like most hybrids.

my mizuno mp650 19 deg is amazing thought. currently watching ebay for a 22deg in stiff. loads in reg but very few stiff. it sits 1 degree open which is ideal for my inside out swing. I can easily hit this boths ways. beast of a club. it will be a dark day when this comes out of the bag.

do you guys hit those 3/4 irons when the ball is nestled down in the first cut. surely the hybrid works best for there?

Most of the replies on this thread so far seem to be from you guys who are low handicappers which really surprises meas I would have thought that hybrids would be a essential part of your kit.

Is it just high handicappers that like these clubs ?

within a week of first putting a hybrid in my bag I dropped two shots. I wouldn't leave home without one at least. I pretty much always have two and have had up to three.

essential bit of kit. its just finding the right ones for each player.

I would like to use a hybrid, I can see the benefit plus it would fill a gap for me between 3w 3i and could give me higher flight into greens. But as yet I have not found one that does this.

Never been a great fan of hybrids.

Have a cobra 4 hybrid as the rough at my place can be very tough to get out of but thinking of switching it with my 4 iron again as I prefer the iron from the fairways.

Generally use a 7 wood as my hybrid/rescue and 4 iron from the fairways.

I've tried a few, TM, Titleist and recently the Adams pro but I just keep putting my 3 iron back in the bag or my 19 degree 5 wood. For some reason I struggle with them, there are a fair few pros who do also, I think Kaymer is one of those that doesn't use them.

I struggle to control the flight on all my clubs so my hybrid goes into orbit!

I keep both my 19° 3 Hybrid and 21° 3 iron in my bag because each provides a different option, I usally find myself hitting the iron off the tee and then if I want to launch the ball up to land soft the hybrid is usually my option.

Always good to have options!

I've a love/hate relationship with hybrids for years.
They work for a while then the hooks come, some start hooking before I've even started the swing.....

But...
The Cally X2Hot 19° seems to be bucking the trend.
It's very long and more often than not straight too.
Well worth a bash!

Callaway X Hot. Try it. SO easy to hit, and filthy long. And if the X2 Hot is an improvement, then it should be illegal.

Something to maybes consider before throwing it/them out of the bag.
It's all about set-up & the intention of the swing. To many folks set-up more like a metal, regards ball position, distance away from the ball, hands position at address.

Hybrids are to replace irons, the shaft is a lot shorter & the angle of the shaft at address is steeper as is an irons (in comparison to longer slightly flatter lie with any 'metals')

A lot of folks address the ball with the hybrid a good ways too far forwards in the stance & with the toe of the hybrid 'up' some to have a flatter shaft because they thinking 'metal' rather than 'iron' this gives you too flat a swing (hence why many folks overdraw or hook a hybrid)

The hybrid sole has to be flat of the ground, not toe up at address, hands slightly ahead more over the front of ball, so a little ways forward leaning shaft, so the shaft at address is in the slightly steeper lie angle it was made to be used at.

Too many folks at address have their hands more level with the face (so the shaft is too much in an 'upwards' straight line) of the hybrid.
Instead the hands should be forward some to get the shaft angle leaning down to the ball, as in the swing the 'intention' should be the same as an iron strike at impact, hands get there first leading a forward leaning shaft so ball then divot.

A hybrid has much more of a 'mass' behind the face (a lot more than a long iron) plus the face is slightly concave to help counteract 'gear effect' at collision. So the face isn't flat with a smaller 'mass' behind it as a long iron is, which is why hybrids are a ways more easy to use & more forgiving on strike.

But folks have to set-up at address correctly & have to have the 'intention' of the swing, to swing down & through as you would with an iron, ball first then ground & divot.
