Hi all looking at buying a Hybrid club. Wondered if a no4 hybrid would replace a 4 iron. No3 hybrid replace a 3 iron and so on
Thanks
Andy

Best way to match is by loft and distance. I have both a 3 iron and a 3 hybrid.

My 3 iron is 21*

My 3 hybrid is 19*

The graphite and slightly longer shaft means I have to adjust it from 18* to 19* to better fit with my set.

Either compare at range/on launch monitor or do your best to match loft gapping as I have done. Don't forget a graphite shaft and longer shaft length add distance again. Difference in technology might also play a part.

You may find they end up only 2* apart like mine, if I had added a 2h to my 3 iron I would have left a 6* gap!

My hybrids are approx 1 less than the irons 4h = 3 iron,
They do obviously vary a bit but IMO I would expect the same loft hybrid to go further.

My 4i is 22*, hybrid is a 20*. Currently hunting the same hybrid (mizuno mp clk) in 17*. Skip a 5w and buy a 3w and I think I'm done at the expensive end of the bag!

Would you would only use a hybrid club off of the fairway, or could/would you use off the tee? For instance if a hole was too short for a driver but too long for a (say) 5 iron, could/would you use say a 3H off the tee?

Sorry noob question! :D

Absolutely use one off the tee, longish Par 3’s or short Par 4's. I've hit some of my most sweetest shots with my 20* hybrid off the tee and some of my worst with it off the fairway!

Of course you could. Quite handy if you have a reliable one as they still get the ball out there but should be safer than driver etc

Use any club you like off the tee. Golf clubs are your tools on the course so use the best tool for the job and stuff what anybody else thinks. I've hit a 5 iron off the tee before on a par 5 and would have no problem with using 8, 9 or wedge if it put the ball where I wanted it to be.

A hybrid can be a little life saver if you're having a bad day with the big dog. Good distance and much improved control.
