As some of you maybe aware, I have once again caught this bug called golf, I played a lot when I was younger and a bit when I first sacked football, (even made it to ascot 09) but as many know the onset of a family takes up a lot of time.

So my return has given me new drive and for a while I have been looking for a new 2nd hand set of irons, I'm thinking G15, Mizuno mx25 but at the range earlier and got chatting to a chap with a set of Adams A12's with hybrid 4,5,6 irons.

My question to you all is what are your thoughts on the hybrid iron's?

Well Raymond Floyd's book suggests that the average amature struggles with long irons because they don't have the swing speed. Which is an interesting point, the next tip is to play a long iron further forward to generate spin to make the ball lift. Basically they are hard to hit, your average 4 iron is a 3 iron of 20 years ago so really there is no shame in moving to hybrids.
The point is you score as low as you can, no one records that you hit a hybrid or a cavity back GI club or used a distance ball ... So if you hit them well and they work then use them and enjoy your golf

Hi, I have a Cleveland hybrid that replaces a 4 iron. After getting used to it, it’s very easy to hit. The ball flight is high and the distance is long. It is more reliable for me than a 4 iron but I am newish to the game so that's not surprising. I hit it consistently further and higher than my 4 iron (probably about 180 – 200 yds). I'd definitely get one and give it a try. It has really helped on long second shots.
Good luck with choosing your clubs. I have now sorted all the clubs I need to keep me going.....well the rest are in the post!
