For the past 18 months I've been using a set of Slazenger Big Ezee hybrid irons, and, in spite of the less than glowing reputation they seem to have, got on well with them. I'd like to upgrade to some better quality hybrids, anyone have any experience/advise?

If you are thinking about moving on, I suggest you start to look at cavity back clubs that will give you the forgiveness youneed but actually look lile a proper golf club.

There are loads on the market including Callaway X20, TM Burners, Ping I10 etc and my advise would be to look on the internet to see what makes catch your eye and then go to a large American Golf or similar and see what is there. Make sure you try as many different clubs as possible and don't be pushed by the sales guys into a particular brand if it isn't your cup of tea.

If you want something a little cheaper you ca look on the internet for clubs lie the R7, X18 or G5 but I'm sure many others on here will give you other makes and models to try

I would also suggest a decent set of forgiving CB irons.

I would suggest something like the Cobra S9's which are a doddle to hit to be honest.

Best thing is to try as many as possible on the range and then go from there with a custom fit to ensure you get the right spec shafts etc.

Good Luck and welcome to the GM forum.

As homer said, pop down to AG or Direct golf with an open mind and try what they offer in your price band. Remember price doesn't always mean quality, it just sometimes means they need to fork out sponsorship deals to pro's and so you bare the brunt.

Are we talking about a new set of 'all hybrids', or just replacing the 5, 4, 3, and buying cavities for the rest?

If it is all hybrids, then Cleveland are one of the few quality manufacturers to do this, but they do prevent you from taking a proper divot, so you are building a swing fault for the future.

Cleveland seems to be about the only option, but living in Jersey no-one seems to stock the hybrids. I got down from 17 handicap to 12 using the Big Ezee set, [although it's heading slowly north again...mainly due to back trouble..]I have never taken big divots, and I'm too old to start swing changes now, I just fancy a better quality set of hybrids, as the Slazengers are not of the best quality....
