Hybrid harder to hit than long irons?

Hi All.

I just bought an adams blue hybrid from direct golf as ive never tried one and for the price i couldnt resist.

Taking it to the range though, ive found almost every shot from it to be horrendous. I strike my irons well and like using my 4 and 5 irons, but can't get this thing going at all.

Not sure if its a mental thing due to the look behind the ball. The guide also says suits slower swingers and my swing is fast.

Am about a 12 handicapper and am finding it the hardest club in the bag to hit.

Anyone else struggle with them?

This, coming from someone who used to drive the ball well and strike a consistent ball... Since my game has migrated I find I use the Adams pro 16* and 20* more than any other club in the bag bar the putter.

I've recently experimented with a 2i, but nope I'm a cheat stick man!

I don't even have a four iron my lowest is a five iron. I would not hit a four iron anywhere near as good as my 22 degree rescue.Which I can launch high and straight.

Very little in this game makes any sense, but the hybrid is the truest example of evolution.

Now... Does anyone know ever I can get the head rewhipped and my hickory shaft repaired in my driver!

I got my current hybrid (21*) when I was playing my long irons (5i to 3i) very well and initially couldn't hit the thing at all. Persisted and now it's probably my most consistent club. Can't put a finger on what changed but just "keep calm and carry on" seem to work

Maybe the OP is trying to hit it like a wood instead of a 5/6i, seems a common fault with those new to hybrid city.

Never have got on with them and have now stopped trying, reverted back to 5 wood and long irons.

Tried pretty well every hybrid since their introduction but to no avail.

what's the 'known' swing speed with a 5i?

did you get fitted for the club or just buy it?

I think the people that struggle with hybrids are trying to swing them like a fairway wood and sweep them which there not designed to do, you must play them the same as an iron shot. I've learnt this now and I'm now getting on much better with my Adams Tightlie

Interesting what people say about hitting it like a wood. Mine is 20 degree Cobra Baffler, which I love, I play it forward in stance like a 4 iron but feel it's more like hitting a wood where it's more of a sweep than a descend.
For what it's worth I think the Adams Blue range is a super game improver, and if so won't suit your game being a 12 handicap

I can't believe this skill is so rare. It is a doddle. I learned it from whipping eyes on to split cane fishing rods xxx years ago.

Quite a few ladies of the night only charge 40 quid for a whipping.

I personally find hybrids a pain.I've tried them (Various models) but never really got on with them. My contact and direction is much better with a long iron.The longest iron I carry is a 4 iron, but I'm on the look out for the 3 iron to my 588CB forged on eBay.

The instructions (slow swing vs your quick speed) is an example of why you should try before you buy and ideally more than one model. Hybrids are great clubs, far more versatile than a long iron in my opinion. It can be mastered although whether the Adams is the best for you is another point. Stick with it and it'll come.

Not so sure about your closing statement. I play an Adams Blue 3w and absolutely smash it, it's so easy to hit.
If anything, using a SGI club should be easier to use the better you get.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Interesting to see some others preferring irons after giving hybrids a decent go. Will persevere for a while and also try out a few other brands. Cheers.
