Hi guys, I'm currently after a hybrid of 3 iron loft. I have looked about online but found conflicting information as to what the normal or common loft is for a 3 iron hybrid? I currently play driver 3 wood 5 wood 4 iron-sw but cannot get on with my 5 wood for love nor money. And hence the post am currently thinking a 3 iron hybrid would be the way to go and drop the 5 wood. Not paricularly bothered about make, price needs to be reasonably cheap, more than likely will buy second hand after trying a few. Advice on here has been great from previous questions so thought I would post here and see what's recommended club wise and loft wise. A complete beginner as you may realise.

Thanks in advance

Rather than think about the loft as a start point, think about the gap you want to fill.

5wood carries 215???
4i carries 190???

So you want a 205 carry club - then go whore yourself at American golf until you get the spec you need and jump on here/ eBay to buy one.

I had the exact same thing recently.....I found a 22* hybrid filled my 3i gap.

21 degree filled my gap but as Robo says your best bet is too figure out the gap distance you need to fill

So good hybrids on the market at the moment

Conflicting information is more probably my knowledge more than anything but seen clubs advertised as 3 hybrids anywhere between 20 and 24 degrees.

I'm in the same position as the 2nd post, but hadn't thought about it as much as you state. But what you say does make absolute sense. But I am a beginner so I hope my lack of knowledge is kind of self explanatory! So basically try anything between a 20 and 24 degree loft and go with what works for me? Anyone got any recommendations for me? Playing off 18 but only been playing properly around 9 months. Any advice welcome, thanks for previous replies

My Wilson 3H is 19 degrees, which extents the range to 19 degrees to 24 degrees.

If you want to replace your 5 wood, why are you only looking at 3 iron lofts?

If I wanted to replace at club (iron or wood) with a hybrid I'd start with the loft of the club and see where that takes me.

So if you want to drop your 5 wood, start with a hybrid that has the same loft as your 5 wood. If you hit that too long, chose a club that's one degree weaker, see how far you hit that (or one degree stronger, if you hit it too short). Repeat until you find a club that goes the distance you want it to.

I have just purchased an Adams XTD Ti 3 hybrid 20 degrees to replace an old Cleveland Halo 3 hybrid 22 degrees.
I chose the Adams after reading the reviews and also it's available for around sixty quid but mainly because it is adjustable 1 1/2 degrees up or down.
I have set it to 21 1/2 degrees, only been out once with it and it seems ok.

Nothing wrong asking questions. Keep firing them away. I think as others have said you need to find something that plugs the gap. The issue isn't just with hybrids. Lofts vary in irons from manufacturer to manufacturer and there isn't any sort of industry standard. Try and get on a launch monitor and hit a few and see which works best and fills the gap

As far as distances go, my 19deg hybrid carries 10yds less than a 19deg 5 wood and 10yds more than a 21deg 3 iron.

No offence intended, but as a relative newcomer to golf I'd say find one that you find easy to hit well. Inconsistent quality of strike will make more difference to the distance you get that a few degrees of loft.

Having said that though, I wouldn't go any lower than 19 degrees because I don't think they are particularly easy to hit, and certainly not easier than a 5 wood.
Maybe you haven't found the right 5 wood?

Part of the issue is that we can't hit 3 irons as well as hybrids (generally)

19-21 are common 3h lofts but 3 length at 22 may well work better for you.

Don't get hung up on the numbers!

Echo the above advice.

I have a Ping Anser 2H (17 degree) and 3H (20 degree) that was up on the for sale page. £60 each or £100 for the two. Send me a message if interested.
