Finally, finally!! I get to join the "another first sub 100 club"!

Went out with 2 work colleagues today, one off 16, the other of 9 (used to be scratch) and to say their expertise was helpful is an understatement. What with all the talk about cat 1/2 clubs only, all I can say is that I'm glad these guys weren't so dismissive of a hacker. Martin (9) has actually been a member for best part of 40 years as he dad was groundsman and his knowledge and course management advice was superb. They both just calmed me down so i didn't try any hero shots.

Before we started we had a chat about my strengths, main one being that from inside 100 yards I'm pretty confident of getting down in 3. So on all the par 4/5 they would just give me a look if I went for a 3 wood of the deck on a downward lie or from the rough and sure enough I'd select a safer club lay up and get down in 3. Even managed a biddy on a par 5, not sure I've even par'd one before today. I'm really hoping I can heed the lessons of today as I know I've got these scores in me, my cards just always has a couple of 9+ which destroys my score. Anyways I'm signing off from the pub to get them, yet another round of drinks they duly deserve!

Well done. Lot to be said for good course management and these guys clearly steered you around nicely. I'm pretty dismissive of those wanting Cat 1/2 only clubs. Golf is for everyone and I have played with a lot more higher handicappers who know their limitations but have great fun than low single figure players intent on making a good score at the detriment to good company.

Totally agree, I started playing golf to have fun. Obviously we all want to improve but I wouldn't stop playing with someone because I thought I was better than them. Must say along with course management I've had an hour of lessons and as long as I remember to do was I was instructed the shots always come off better.
