So the owners of Hull City want to rename the club Hull City Tigers - why oh why do they think that doing so would be a good idea - and don't they realise that would make them sound like a rugby league team. Tradition - what tradition? Football club names should have protection orders placed on them - thety are part of the fabric of our society and are not the play things of someone who buys a business.

When you buy a business you don't then own the history and traditions of the football club (ask sevco supporters on their view on football club name changes and changes of owner of the football club business).

I would suspect that as soon as they're re-sold again, the' Tigers' will be dropped and their old name re-instated. That is presuming there's no fan backlash and they ditch the plan almost immediately. Bet there wasn't much fan consulation on this one!

Fulham Falcons anyone... :)

Nicked from twitter earlier:

Tried to order some tickets for Hull City Tigers first game 'We've sold out' he said. I said 'I know but I'd still like some tickets please'

Does anyone actually care about this though after they haven't drastically changed it just added a naff bit at the end! They'll still just get called Hull City.

could be a lot worse the club could be in Portsmouth position now that's an issue worth talking about if it happens to a team.

I agree with the bit in bold. The bottom line is the guy saved them from going down the pan therefore I guess he has the right to name them what he likes.

I wonder if golfers ever had an uproar when the names "mashie" "spoon" "cleek" "baffy" "brassie" "jigger" etc were replaced with modern numbers?

I understand what the guy has done saving the club but surely he is being poor advised and that the fans, who after all are the bread and butter of the club, won't stand for it. The owner is saying it is the AFC part that is out dated and I agree but no one uses that and refers them as Hull City anyway or Hull City nil as I thought they were called!!

It's not the AFC he is bothered about but the City, saying it is too common?! His idea will be to name them Hull Tigers in a couple of years time. Absolutely disgraceful, I'd rather be a non-league team without a pot to piss in than have some clueless rich owner come and play about with the traditions of my football club. Which is lucky I suppose as I support a non-league team without a pot to piss in!
