Just thought i'd pop this up here as we often hear tales of bad experiences, though the guys that have had Orka fittings have shown us how good a fitting can be.

I'd like to similarly doff my hat to Ben Blackburn the pro at Kingshill golf club. My brother and I were willing to pay for my dad to get a driver fitting at the Belfry but he wanted a new shiny to use at a retirement golf day he and his pals are having, so he booked in with Ben at Kingshill for yesterday morning.

I went over with him as its near to my work, He was given everything to try the new TMs, Titleist drivers, Callaways literally all brands with a host of different shafts, lofts and tweaks.

At the end of it there were 2 clear standouts both Titleist the 910D2 & the 913D2 both in 10.5 degrees of loft the dilemma was at the end of it he was getting great hang time with both using a Bassara shaft but a nice penetrating flight with roll using a Diamana ilima shaft.

So after the fitting they were discussing best option and at no time did Ben try to sell him the more expensive 913, he actually told him its his choice all he is here to do is make sure the club fits him perfectly not try to upsell something for the sake of it when the cheaper option performed just as well for him.

After a coffee in the bar my dad in the end decided to go with the 913D2 with Bassara shaft without any pressure from anyone. What also impressed me greatly was when the Pro brought out the brand new club to spec in its packaging he also came out armed with a Diamana ilima shaft and gave it to my dad free of charge. He just said he really liked the flight he got with it for use on a windy day, and said dont alter the set up they'd decided was right but instead on a windy day swap out the Bassara for the Ilima to exact same setting.

Got to say massively impressed with the fitting, the fact he didnt try to push anything and gave him the extra shaft as a freebie. Will certainly be paying young Mr Blackburn a visit for when I'm looking for new gear.

Top stuff - always good to hear of excellent service.

In fact, your post has made me look at the Kings Hill site, and I think I might have to go and have a go round now! Nice one!

If you need anyone to make up the numbers when you go, give me a shout and I'll gladly come play there

I have lessons there with Paul Page who is really seriously good

Any game there would interest me too

Will let you know chaps - it seems a pretty progressive club - particularly like the membership fees having an intermediate level for those under 30!

I have played the Kings Hill course a fair few times now and have never had a bad day out (even when my golf has been crap)the service and welcome that all the staff give you is up there with the best in the area. I have heard nothing but praise for the Pros and their teaching techniques (apparently Ben Blackburn does a residential course somewhere hot in the winter as well). I do know that if I lived in the area I would become a member like a shot

Not that I will ever play it as I live miles away, but the interactive course tour on their web site is excellent. And any other club looking how to make their site better could do a lot worse that find out how they did theirs.

now thats good service and the free shaft is getting him Marketing/advertising way more than the cost of the shaft ever could.

Pity I'm not closer as the TM R1, Callaway extreme, Nike Covert and Titleist 913 are all on my try list, and one of them will be Hired :smirk:

Its £1400 per year for a full paying adult. I went there last week for a lesson when my, and most other, course was closed and the players were coming off with no mud on their shoes.

The practice facilities are superb with a range for full blown hitting in one diection and a large short game area facing the other way.

I have used Paul Page for a little while and am very happy with his teaching which is largly Hogan based theory. He was the last person to beat Tiger Woods in matchplay before Tiger went pro and that is some claim to fame!

The course has grown on me the few times I've played it but I wouldn't leave my club to go there

Haven't played the course in years, but from memory it's long and when the wind blows, even longer!

I went to see Ben for a retro-fitted shaft for my 910, as I really wasn't happy with the existing shaft. He was very patient and even went as far as to give me a little swing-fix before we decided on a shaft. Ended up with the Project X 73g Stiff (moved from the ilima 62g regular) and the experience really was top notch. I couldn't recommend him highly enough.

I'm a member at KH and can vouch for all that's said above

Ben, Mark & Chris (pro's) are all top chaps

The course is fab, never any mud, though we have had some damp patches recently - not surprising really! - but considering that the course is in top nick. In the summer the greens are fabulous.

It's a challenge too, no mickey mouse holes, 6700 yds off the whites.

That's why i joined.

In all, top golf!
