So sad you are giving up golf.
Is there no way you could carry on playing?
It's sad to see someone with your ability giving up altogether.
I'm not prying, just asking...if that makes sense

I suppose being Homer's bitch for so long would make anyone want to give up

Seriously though mate, don't give it up completely - the extra income from your winnings must come in useful :D :D

if its not our business then maybe pm said person and not put it in the lounge!?. was just curious having played with the guy a couple of times, seems a shame.

Indeed I am giving up, I will come back to Golf one day but I really don’t know when. I simply can’t afford the membership costs any more. I have a wedding to pay for which is looking at costing 8K and also a new house deposit to get together and with the bank wanting 35K and me only having 20k from selling my previous I have quite a bit of saving to do.

The membership costs where I live are all over a grand a year and that’s to play Ascot. Combined with how many balls I lose a round etc it was costing way too much. Just playing loads of Tennis these days, slowly getting back into going to the Gym and breeding Marine Fish (very sad I know fish breeding but it makes quite a bit of cash but does take loads of work)

Ill defo still be on here when procrastinating at work or HID has the wedding channel on.

What's this then, Bob?

If you look at my original post I just said it was sad he was giving up and was there no way he could carry on playing.
I wouldn't call that prying.
If I had asked why he was giving up, how much are you in debt, why is your wife leaving you etc, that in my opinion would be prying.

What about pay and play golf, no financial commitment ;)

That’s like saying to an alcoholic you allowed ½ a larger 3 times a week.
Pay and Play would be an option but none of my mates really play Golf or would be up for playing regularly, also when I would be paying about £30 a round 3-4 times a month I would be paying more than a membership when I factor in travel costs etc.

Keep the clubs fella, i'm sure you'll get some invites.
Play when you can. No financial commitments.
Sell them and you'll get a fraction of what they're worth and if/when you start playing again you'll end up paying top dollar to get a new set of sticks.
At the end of the day, what you get for them ain't gonna pay for a honeymoon.

Believe me i've done it and regretted it.

Got to agree mate keep the clubs. Apart from anything else there will be things like members/guest days you can get to play (I presume that means you are free to play in the Ascot one as you aren't technically a member anymore!)

Apart from anything else, a few buckets at a range every so often just to keep your hand in what break the bank and we still have that smash and grab at Medwayjons to play before you can finally slip into retirement

sorry to lose htl to tennis monthly, everyone has money problems. is sad when you have to give up things that are not essential. i recently cancelled my playboy tv subs :D sorry but seriously ive struggled to pay some debts and the mortgage so i can understand.
do you think if you give up golf, you will stop dreaming about golf?

Stress management, a stressed husband missing he's hobby and passion is not good for a healthy marriage ;) once a month with a bit of range time but never sell the kit, I've dong it with motocross too many times it's cost me a small fortune

Playing might be an issue from now on. Sold my irons to a mate today and the drivers going Sat.

Its only Golf and not a big deal lads, to be honest I did start to not enjoy it towards the end when I was scoring 40+ points in friendly games and then 20 in a club comp. I really hated this and it did get to me and bring me down especially with the amount of stick I use to get for it.
End of the day when people ask why I stopped it will be the reply “costs too much and takes too long”

Playing the Celtic Manor was awesome, by far one of the best if not the best course I have ever played! and for the amount you pay in subs per year and for the quality of the course there is no way I would be giving up Golf.

The only thing that would get me out of retirement would be a game with Paul Stewart, I have tried to be nice to him sending him messages etc but with no reply, I AM GUTTED!!!
