After a similar post a couple of months back bemoaning the state of my game I'm pleased to report an improvement of late. Last 3 cards have all been played to handicap or better and am sitting safe on 4.

Yesterday played well and shot a two over 72 but the CSS came down 1 to 68 so I didn't get a cut. Really felt I deserved one too, too many players scored well however . Just one back going into second round of this cup comp tomorrow.
Anyway nice to get lowest gross on the scoresheet, doesn't happen very often.
At least I'm enjoying it now, that is the point after all!Sometimes I forget that! :o Beautiful afternoon weatherwise and a half day from work helps of course .

How's everyone else getting on these days - improving :), status quo :(

Not played enough to gain consistency but generally playing to 14ish. Played a lot better last week up north though, played to 10 and the biggest club I carried was a 3 iron. (new driver and my 3wood and hybrid needed some range work). Even on the par 5's I was still on in 3 comfortably so maybe it's something people should try.

I feel as though im improving on most aspects of my game, compared to the start of the year my driving and iron play has improved massively. Trouble is as my long game gets better my shortgame goes downhill, it's just the pressure of knowing if I could chip i'd be playing off 5.
My aim for the year is single figures, I started at 10, went up to 10.4 and now back to 10 again. All it will take is one of my good rounds in a comp but as you all know it's easier said than done.

Stuart,

Glad to hear your game has picked up and totaly agree that a low CSS can be a bummer sometimes.

Personally I'm having my best year so far and am also enjoying my golf, I'm playing some steady golf and have cut out most of the silly mistake I was guilty of in previous years.

I think the fact that I said at the start of the season, I don't care what number my handicap ended up being as it would reflect the state of my golf rather than obsessively chasing single figures has helped.

Hope your form continues to the end of the season and good luck in the comp mate.

Playing great in practice but can't replicate it in competition play. Last three cards have been two 0.1 rises and a buffer zone. It's not all doom and gloom as the quality of the strike is generally good I'm just directionally challenged

OK, but not where I want it to be.

Still hitting far too many errant shots and I'm generally fairly erratic off the tee as of late. My approaches and up/downs aren't too bad though, which is strange as it's historically the weakest part of my game.

I hope to start playing more regularly when I get membership to my new club at Christmas. At the moment I'm getting out once a week if I'm lucky due to other commitments/lack of time.

Been a strange season so far for me, been cut as low as 3.2, went back up to 4.1 and now back where I started @ 3.7.

STarted the season like a train but always felt that my scores were a lot better than how I was playing. Had a bout of the "J.Arthurs" for a few weeks which I thought was terminal.

Made some significant (for me) swing changes and am now striking the ball better than i ever have before. Short game and putting have come on a fair bit this year too.

Driving the ball like a plonker though. :(

Yoyoing like a good'n.

The thing that get's me is that even when I'm playing bad, I know what I'm trying to achieve with my irons and hybrids, so I'm confidant that I'll get it back, and I can work some kind of score on to the card

Conversely, even when I'm playing well, I haven't got any clue at all as to why my woods are working. So when they inevitably go whatsits up I'm slicing it into the deepest jungle without any idea what to do to about it. So the card gets ripped up, and I wander off in a sulk.

How can they be so diferent? Or is it ( possibly ) all in the mind?

Still going up 0.1 at a time though managed to hit the buffer zone on Saturday. Do feel I'm playing better and starting to gtet on top of the front nine, then can't quite seem to keep it going.
Heartened by a great front 9 on Sunday mixed open 4BBB comp where we scored 43 points total - just out of prizes, but a load of these points were mine so it felt good.
Putting better - big difference.
Still struggling in the sand. Had lesson in practice bunker from Mr B yesterday - picked up on one major fault and THINK I am getting the idea, but could take longer to get rid of the demons.
My target is very modest - stop going up!

Straight from the hip please.

You seemed to play half decent at Nairn despite the weather back in April. Have the wheels come off?

Wheels. Axle. Brake drums.
Nairn was one of my "better" games this year.
I'm playing CRAP.
(And that's the flowered up version by the way)
:D

No complaints, I have great days and mediocre days but the overall trend is that my handicap is falling. Cut 3 shots this year so far and could make that 4 with 1 more good round.

Steady,,,,but not spectacular, im hovering around 15 / 16 (currently 15.4) and can't seem to string together a those couple of medal rounds to get a decent cut. Socially, i'm really enjoying my golf and also shooting some very decent scores in bounce games !!

In the medals i'm playing solid bogey golf, making a few pars along the way and taking my medicine when need be. I'm thinking that in the next competition (week on Saturday), i'll throw caution to the wind and take on a few more shots than i have been.

After a good start to the year, the wheels seem to have been stolen, and while my game is on bricks someone seems to be kindly steeling parts off it that were any good.

By the end of the year my game at this rate will be a bare bag with no internals.

I've posted recently about how things are going well for me at the moment after some seriously awful golf early in the year.

Glad you're getting your game back Birdieman and are enjoying being out there again. Nothing like it when you see shots in your mind and then execute them.

Started the year on 21 after only getting my handicap.....Went from that to 19.2 and then dropped to 17.4.....At the moment im at 17.9(18) and the last 3 rounds iv played have been 30 points and 2 35's...So its turning somebit......
I wanted to reach 12 by the end of the year but i think 15 or 16 is more realistic and acheivable if my form stays good.....
Iv also had a change of irons which im just starting to aclimatise to after 6 rounds of playing with them....Happy days

I'm playing extremely badly at the moment. I'm hitting the odd good shot but I can't take much pleasure from them as I can't string two decent shots together. Working 12 hour days since I got married 8 weeks ago isn't leaving much time for practice so there seems no chance to improve. I'm just pretty frustrated at the moment and not really enjoying myself.
