Anyone have any ideas of how HDID works?

Is it the courses responsibility to report scores to HDID or vice versa?

Our club is frustratingly poor at getting scores up on there, some major board comps haven't even been put up however my old course has all of there's up generally within a couple of days.

Anyone else's club like this?

HDID will only display what your club tells it to display. As a competition is closed there is an option to send the info to HDID if the operator isn't taking that option then it won't be shown. It can be displayed at a later time, but, again, if the operator closing the comp isn't sure of what they are doing, there will be issues.

No idea how it works but at our place within a couple of hours of the last group submitting their cards in a comp the results are all on HDID. I guess it is down to the secretary or whoever at your club and how quickly they get round to doing it (if at all!!)

I think HDID end up taking a lot of stick for poor efforts from clubs. My son recently played in two away comps which will bring him a cut. I know that both were uploaded to the CDH yet his club has not amended his handicap yet, one comp happened 3 weeks ago. The fact that HDID has not updated is not their fault, it is down to the h/c secretary at his club.

HDID is just a (poor) software front end for what your club uploads

Actually, it's more a reflection of the attitude/awareness of the Club! and it's really a 'back-end' (implied body associations are appropriate!) than a 'front-end'. The Master system is still the PC at the Club. HDID is merely the publishing feature of tht - no different than the Club Noticeboard!

DCB is spot on about the need for appropriately aware operators!

Fully Web based systems are far simpler! But that was not an option when HDID was created (reputedly after CDH specs could not be agreed eons ago!)!

HDID is poor as is CS

I deal with both on a daily basis and it's an outdated system that is rapidly being overtaken by other systems

Right now they are both having issues and their help desk is poor

Even if you send info daily to them it's hit and miss if it published correctly and trying to access the website on a sat afternoon/evening is a lottery

We are currently going through the process of moving away from them

A lot of unfair pressure goes on people who may not be quite at home when using a strange system every so often at the golf club. When I took over our Juniors a few years back I was shown the basics, but, I had to do a lot of reading and "trial & error" experimentation to get the system to give up some of its secrets. It is actually a far better system now than it was five years ago. Clubs need to teach their volunteers properly rather than hoping everything goes okay on competition day.
If you close a comp and can put a results sheet up on the notice board, you v=can publish all the info for that comp online. It's really as simple as that.

Ah! What memories! From a further 5 or so years before that!! Closing the comp on the Club PC; backing up on to around 20 3.5" Floppies (separately for Mens and Ladies) - twice just in case my home PC didn't like a disk!; Loading onto my PC, so result could be 'Published' to HDID - via my very slow internet link!

And, of course, the CS server was busy with loads of clubs doing similar, so was prone to freeze/fail!

What joys! ;rolleyes:
