Howard Webb slide tackled.

I'm sorry, but that statement makes absolutely zero sense.

How so? Players are held up and meant to be role models on and off the pitch at all times. Obviously as adults we understand its a joke. But children for whom they're meant to set an example may not know what a testimonial is. As i originally said, i understand its banter. But if they are meant to show refs respect at all times, then neither Webb or Holtby should be doing it.

Anyway, i was only making an observation in my op on the subject, if you don't agree that's fine. Was only paying devils advocate.

And there is me thinking the parents should guide a child in what's right and wrong and maybe expalin to them the differences in a testimonial and a real match. Oh well.

I fully agree, but if thats the case then maybe the FA should drop the respect campaign as surely a footballer can do what he likes and it's up to parents to teach the right from wrong. Not sure how that works on a saturday morning when dad's are abusing kids footy refs.

Anyway, not sure if my point was originally missed, or just more people wanting to point score, as per the trends on this forum.

Time for a sabbatical i reckon.

Note nite.

I think he should have been doing a referees course instead of playing! He was quite some way the worst Premiership referee I saw this season and the only one who got boo' d before the game started v Chelsea (I think)

When Howard Webb is refereeing he has to be the centre of attention!

Point score? Not sure I follow that. You have an opinion (to which you are fully entitled), and I have an opinion, which differs as I don't agree with you! Nothing more than that really.

I think saying, "the FA should just drop the respect campaign" because of a pantomine act where Holtby fouls the "referee" who shouldn't be kicking the ball in the first place and obviously dives, who then reacts by pushing Holtby, who responds with a comedy dive of his own is just daft. It wasn't an agressive act, it was a joke. A child will be able to appreciate that, the same way they know the ref shouldn't be kicking the ball in the first place. If anything it's nice to see a more human side to footballers and referees.
