How would you deal with this?

At my club, which I have been a member for 18 months, to play at w/ends in the comp`s you have to enter the week before by adding your name to the start sheet for a particular time,I added my to a slot (3 balls) in the middle of a group of 8 that allways plays together,1 spare space.
I turn up half hour before,and start out on the practice ground,after about 10 mins 1 of the group of 8 tells me I am out early as they re organised the start sheet so that they could all play together, and send me out with another guy who had done the same as me and added his name to this bunch, clearly they did not want to play with us.
This is the second time this group has done this to me,clearly my company stinks.
I went out on the course angry that they had the arrogance to do this, I have also had my name crossed off in the past and one of theirs put in it`s place.
I find it hard to stick to certain times to play so don`t have regular playing partners, so always take pot luck who I play with, I am now really considering leaving this club as any complaint to the pro is brushed aside, as they are all long standing influential members.
Is it me or am I being too sensitive,I never came across this attitude at my old club 12 years ago, where I was a member for 8 years.

I do sympathise, but sometimes it's better just to let these folk do their thing. Yes, it a pain, yes, it's not right or fair, but I'm 99% sure it's not personal when it happens to me (now and again).
I often put my name down at an odd time, (different to my normal groups, who are the 7.00am crowd, and sometimes, I just don't want to get up early) and sometimes, I get moved or put with someone else....

Take the moral high-ground. That's life, unfortunately.

I would have perhaps given him a sarcastic thanks, and explained that you quite fancied getting to know a few more members and was actually looking forward to it.

I prefer to belong to a club that draws names for all competitions. That way, over time you get to know all the members, rather than it being clickey and just plain unfriendly.

At my club there's a Medal and Stableford competition every month, so members usually then team up on the other two weekends if they wish.

It takes a lot of my hard earned to belong to a club so I want to make the most of it and get involved socially.
Competitions are always taken seriously and competitive, but playing with somebody different all the time makes for a much more interesting game.

Perhaps a change of clubs is on the cards Chipping.

I guess that's where I'm lucky at my club. No booked tee times so you can roll up (unless the tee is booked for a competition). We also have "greedies" which basically are unofficial stablefords. You just turn up, pay your £2 into the pot and put you ball in the hat to be drawn and away you go. Winner takes the money (but they operate greedie handicaps so win a few and you could be off significantly lower than your club figure)

My club also has drawn competitions so you hardly ever play with the same players consecutively. In my four years or so at the club there has only been one player I've been drawn against who I didn't enjoy playing with and its been a great way to get myself and my game (when its good) noticed which has opened doors into club matches.

I think you may need to seriously consider if the cosy insular world that exists there is really the best for your game and your enjoyment.

WHat would they have done if you had turned up a few minutes before your original time? WOuld ya have been DQ'd for being 'late'?

This would really annoy me unless someone had a good reason and asked me prior to changing it, if it was ok with me.

If you find it annoying, then I'm guessing that you'll always find it annoying.

If you get no backup when you question it, you have two choices - put up with it, or go.

If you play golf for enjoyment, but aren't enjoying it, then go. If you enjoy it except for this 8 ball, then just make sure you don't tee off anytime near them.

Personally, if I could afford it, I'd be inclined to at least look around for a better alternative.

Who is organising the Competition? If it is the Pro Shop ask him what is happening. If it is the handicap Committee tell them that it is wrong and why should people be allowed to change once the Comp has been drawm.

At our club because so many additions/deletions were being done they had to put the sheet behind perpex under lock and key. If peopel wanted to change they now have to ASK for the amendment!

I've never liked the whole "put your name in a time slot" way of doing it. The only fair way is to draw every compy.
My advice would be to challenge it. And if you don't get any joy then look for a club that does draw medals.

Homer, is that like the winter handicap that doesnt exist?
Regarding the OP, I wouldnt stand for that at all, Id report them and if it continues, Id stroke all of their names off and get a few floaters to put their names in instead.
Noone has more right than any other member when it comes to tee times (bar the captain)

Thanks for all comments, after thinking it through last night and today, I have decided that my club is not fit for my support, and I am now on the look out for somewhere new.

The small minded arogant folks can carry on playing with themselves,I am not alone in suffering this after chatting to other local clubs, who have seen, other members leave my current club and move because of this.

I am committed to my current club until Dec, and pay monthly, am I entitled to resign from the club, and stop the monthly payments, as I just don`t want to carry on playing there, or do I have to pay the full year and then resign.

If he/she cant resolve the problem with the members taking control of the comps, then tell him/her you want to leave.
Explain why and when you want to leave and ask for you membership money back.
He/she will either act positively and get it sorted or give you 5 months membership back and then you go and join a more friendly club

I'm guessing you're being facetious with that comment but in case not, each greedie runs as their own society if you like and so there are "society" handicaps. Usually a greedie winner will get cut 2 shots per win and second will get cut 1. There is one "the hooded claw" which is the one the big boys (low figures) play in and that gets ultra competitive. The Saturday morning one is the main one and is a really good way for our newbie members to get a game and meet some of the clubs more established members and is always played in a good spirit although the post-match enquiry does get a bit lively and there's always a bit of banter.

Thanks bobmac, all of that group are long standing members with alot of influence,a lonely voice would not be heard or want to be heard,money talks if you get my drift.

Pretty well made my mind up to move on,I was a member at another club for over 10 years and never came across this while I was there, so thanks for all the tips and suggestions.

Why are you committed ? You cancel the DD, they don't get your hard earned, so you can spend it at a new club.

Once you've decided to go, do it sooner rather than later, otherwise you'll start building up resentment about wasting your time and money where you don't want to be, and don't feel welcome.
