I have been playing a few bounce games away from home with a few of my friends and over the last month or so I seem to struggle to play to my current handicap (12) we have played 4-5 different courses and just can't seem to get it round with my handicap. We played at my course yesterday and I was 2 under my handicap and took the money from them, I did get a little bit of stick for it mind you but why can't I play to handicap away from home.Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just me

I seem to travel ok. I've played 26 competition rounds this year, 20 of which were away (scratch) comps.

My h'cap has risen 0.2 for the period.

i was wondering this yesterday, i dont play at other courses very often and having come down to 13 from my 18 society h/c , i did think i mite struggle elsewhere

I'd say ok. Ours is a 6,000 + yards, mainly tree lined course with smallish greens, so, accuracy is paramount. Providing I don't try and smash the cover off the ball and end up in trouble on away courses, that are generally more open, I can usually put a round together.

I don't tend to fair too badly and am quite confident that the course doesnt make
Much difference to my score, in fact my best round this year was away at Hollinwell.

Have played a variety of courses over the 12 months and the handicap travels well. Out of the 4 course I played on a regular basis the Marquess is the one that my handicap has struggled at times

That's the strength of the games - horses for courses!

Because of my home course being pretty tight I was happy on the Marquess for the forum meet and won the afternoon round there, as did Mashleyr7, who's a fellow member at my place, on the Friday meet

Despite being open where I play its pretty windy and has undulating fairways which can make it tough going. Handicap usually travels quite well, especially on relatively flat courses. Burn a few shots early doors on courses that are tree lined though!

I think my problem might be down to my yardages as I seem to struggle to hit greens with my 2nd shots but at my home course it's not as much of a problem, need to take more club and plot my way around a bit better.

We didn't play the Marquess, We did the Duchess and Dukes.

Never had any issues TBH. My 4 away qualifying rounds have been 1 cut of 0.2, 1 buffer and 2 x 0.1s so all square overall. I normally find the key on any course is keeping the ball in play off of the tee, which happens to be a particular strength of mine. I don't think I've ever come across a normal course that I thought was too tough for me. The only time I felt I was out of my depth was the back nine on the West Course but that was largely to do with the wind blowing a hooley straight into our faces.

You got to be happy with that, If you hadn't played the courses beforehand then I would say that's a great result.

Thold course inside the race course was short. Tricky but short and I found my handicap didn't really travel and I was at least 3-4 shots worse than handicap every time I played. When we moved to the current course my handicap went up as its a proper test and I am at a point now where I think my handicap relates to my current ability and has travelled much better, especially in club matches.

Normally travels well . middle of this year it didnt even stay at home well at home tho :p , ..

not so bad tho .. i think i could be lower , but in reality its probably right, or close to being right

When I go away for society days I normally play 4-6 shots better than my handicap - I put this entirely on how hard my home course is.
