Hi People!

Tomorrow I have a slightly new situation to deal with and your advice would be appreciated...

I belong to an Ex-Pat group and a member of said group has family visiting from the UK. One of them is a golfer, 18 handicapper and I have arranged for us to go play golf tomorrow.

So if two club golfers meet for the first time in the UK and they both have legit handicaps is it common to suggest a match for a small wager? If so, medal or strokeplay (only two of us) I was thinking of keeping the stakes simple....maybe $10 or pick up the bar tab.

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks,

Craig.

To be honest, if you don't them I wouldn't suggest playing for money, but it's your decision

Loser buys the first round, stableford. Plus crisps and nuts (which must be fully opened and shared in the middle of the table)

Wouldn't dream of asking that. Get through the introductions and see if there's a format they prefer and take it from there. I'd buy the drinks as host.

You could do pound, pound, pound - Stableford.

Best score front 9 wins a £1, same back 9 and £1 overall.

Even if they/you win all 3 , its Only £3 - enough for a pint.

He's on holiday so after introductions on first tee just ask him if he wants to add a bit of fun to the game for a small sum, 5 Dollars or first round or exactly as Liverbirdie has put, he'll probably want to go for it and gives him a story to tell if he wins.

As host, you buy the first round.

As for a wager on the game, bear in mind you have the advantage of local knowledge so he may possibly see it as a little unfair. So make it small and then let him win! ;)
