This may sound like a bit of a crazy concept but over my last 3 rounds it has happened.

I normally have a reasonably tidy short game, nothing that would wow you, but reliable.

What I have found over my last 3 rounds is I have become more confident with my putter since getting fitted thanks to GM and PING. What this has actually done is taken the pressure off when I am around the green as I have the confidence now that I can knock in 6-10 foot putts. So now when I am faced with a difficult chip I just play it without the pressure of having to get it inside 3 foot to be able to make par.

So what I have found is because I am not putting so much pressure on my short game to get it close, I am playing them with much more confidence and now hitting them closer the hole.

The long and short of it is this. If you are happy that you can knock in longer putts then you do not have to worry and getting your chips dead. If you do not put too much pressure on yourself then you can play it with more confidence and get it closer.

Strange theory you may think but it is what I have found.

What do you think, if you can make any sense of how my head works. Then again I would not advise you trying to get inside my head, not if you want to keep your sanity..............

being a good putter takes the pressure off your second shots to par 4's for all the reasons you stated- very commonly felt by most in single figs I would feel. It's when your putting goes off it puts extra pressure on the 2nd shots and immense pressure around the green

Tell me about it.........

This is exactly what I am finding since getting this custom fit putter, I do not feel under so much pressure. My last 3 rounds have been +6 (in the cold wind), +8 (in windy comp saturday) and +2 (in good golfing weather) so averaging just over +5 a round. I have been playing without fear as I know I can knock it in the hole once it on the green, whether it is a 4 footer to save bogey or a 6 footer to save par.

To be honest I feel I have been hitting the ball poorly, probably the worst I have hit it for a few months. Then again I had a lesson last month that made a few big changes that I ma still getting use to. But it just goes to show how much difference being able to hole putts can make.
