I bought a couple of Adams A12 hybrids. Couldn't get on with them always hooked the pesky things. Tried to sell them on here a couple of times but no takers. So I kept them in the garage.

Not played for a long time but was out today and had them both in the bag. Why? Well it's a bit cold, I assumed my ball striking would be off and didn't fancy the stinging reprimand for thinning my driving iron.

So out I went today. No expectations and one simple swing thought: keep It slow and smooth.

What happened? A miracle. Striking them beautifully with a soft draw. So the secret to stop hooking your hybrid? Unsuccesfully try to sell them then take a year off golf so you forget how to hook 'em ;)

My word it's nice to be playing golf again

Good to have you back Chap!
I've had many hybrids and, although I still can, the only one I don't hook much is the X2Hot.
Supposed to be so easy to hit, that's hybrids...!

Welcome back to the game Tiger

I've recently stuck a 913h into the bag and, to be honest, it's like cheating is that easy to hit.

I have the same hybrids sitting around. I don't play them anymore but you are right. If you try and kill them they go left. nice and easy is the way to hit them.

Ive moved on to Mizuno hybrids but for a while I thought those where the best thing since sliced bread.

I used to hook mine. Slowed my tempo and now much better, especially the transition slowing. I guess even avsyiff graphite shaft is too whippy

Thanks chaps. Didn't realise how much I'd miss the game but being away for the best part of a year has been tough. Definitely worth it though - the new house looks great :)

I'm not sure it's the shaft that's to blame for me. I think when my tempo is too quick my body gets out of sync. Anyway highlight of the day would have been playing one ball for the whole round but it just snuck out of bounds on the 15th. Bugger.

Hope all's well with you all. I'm off to read my cellophane covered, piled up copies of GM. Fallen behind recently just too painful to read about the game when you can't get out and play! :)

I cannot hit a hybrid to save my life, I don't know why I bother to carry one around with me.
Took it out of the bag yesterday to accommodate two drivers, (one was on test drive), and I didn't miss it until I got to our 14th, which is a longish par 3 which, depending on the wind can play anything from a 7 iron to a Driver. I knew with the wind in the direction it was in I really needed my 4h to reach the green. My playing partner hit 5 iron and came up short, I took my 5 wood out of the bag and gripped down a little and put it on the green pin high (the fact that I then proceeded to three putt was irrelevant :o)
I would never had hit that shot with my 4h so it may well be up for sale soon.

Agree with others. I have to feel like I'm hitting it 150 yards otherwise it's a huge hook. Saying that, having a guaranteed hook shot when you need it is handy.

Love my hybrids- a good thing too considering I'm a short driver of the ball.

Hit 5 greens with it yesterday.

For me, If i play a hybrid like a fairway it will hook. Play it like and iron and its fine. I Think ball position being central and not forward is key for me. no idea if thats technically correct etc, but it works for me! Hit my best hybrid EVER last weekend, 210yards to within 8" for a tap in birdie!

The only shot I could consistently hit with my previous hybrid was a raging hook, regardless of setting.

I broached the subject with my pro.

He has me set-up so the ball is more forward than previous. The ball is positioned so that the gap between the ball and left foot is (roughly) 1/3 the gap between my feet, with, obviously, the remaining 2/3's distance behind the ball to my right foot.

Gives me a repeatable slinging right to left draw.

I hit hooks if my body stops moving before I've finished the swing. My arms take over and I hit a low smothered snap hook, with all my clubs, not just hybrids.

Edit: Nice to see you back, Tiger :)

I've had a love hate relationship with hybrids for a while. Some days they change my round for the better, others they are next to useless. Of course, they aren't. It is me. I have had lessons specifically relating to them and whilst that works briefly I have not been able to master it. This weekend I decided to try a tip given in the last GM from the very nice lady pro golfer, Carin Koch. Play it like a short iron was pretty much the gist of it. On Saturday I mentally played it as an 8 iron. I struck it cleanly, straight, really arrow straight, with a lovely ball flight. It was effortless and wonderful. All excited I went out again yesterday. I started off wth the ball too far forward again and was inconsistent but I moved it back to the middle of my stance, relaxed and struck it like an 8 iron again. Genius. I now love Carin Koch but have decided not to tell my wife this news.

It makes the game so much easier so I am desperately hoping I can repeat the shot throughout the year.

  thank you

I'll now be thinking of 8 irons for my hybrids and irons down to the 8. Won't apply it to when I'm hitting a 9 iron though - that would just be silly!!! ;)

Love hate relationship for me and I know this is the main area I lose shots, it's easy to think you have to swing them like a wood but as everyone says, the best results are when treating them like an iron. Its obviously a mental thing with them, I might go back to a 4i, just wish I hadn't sold mine now  Its definitely the weakest area in my bag.

I'm not very good with them either, usually a low raking hook. I am much more confident with a 3 iron which I seldom hook? My natural shape is a draw and the hooks can creep in every so often with driver and fairway woods but irons I always seem to be able to hit consistently well.

I've practiced with hybrids all winter but not seeing much improvement other than the odd good shot. I think I need a lesson but surely these clubs are made to be easy to hit? I've tried to hit them like an iron and tried to hit them like a wood and I see little difference in either way.
