Hi all,

Not been posting much for the last 6-8 month or so, mainly due to an injury which kept me away from golf.

Anyway, membership renewed for this year, so raring to go - all be it very rusty.

Obviously I didn't get enough medals in last year, so my handicap has lapsed into 'inactive'. When I was given my original handicap all I had to was play three rounds (and they could be off the yellows) and get my card signed by another member.

My mate now thinks that to get my handicap back I will have to play 3 medals, which aint easy for me with family commitments on the days that my club normally plays medals (Saturday). Will speak to the Hcap secretary, but what is your guys understanding of the process?

Cheers,
Redwood

Have a word with your h'cap sec and explain that you were injured. He might reactivate it.

Failing that you simply need to put in 3 cards signed by a member, rather than play in 3 medals.

Guessing that your handicap is 'inactive', I think you need a minimum 3 qualifying rounds to play in club comps, could be wrong on that tho'

Hope your fit and well now.

Just found this hope it helps?

An Inactive handicap is still an official CONGU Handicap. It is not lost or
lapsed.
A Club does not have to impose restrictions regarding inactive handicaps and
entry into club competitions. If a Club wishes to include restrictions on Inactive
handicaps it may do one of the following:
• Prohibit entry into the competition. This should be adopted for match
play knockout competitions. This condition can also be adopted for
qualifying competitions although it is not permissible to adopt this as a
blanket condition for all Club competitions. The CONGU UHS stipulates
anyone with a CONGU handicap is entitled to compete in a reasonable
number of qualifying competitions per year (see CONGU definition of
Member).
• Allow entry into all competitions (including Open days) but restrict them
from winning prizes. Entry fees may be charged and any subsidiary prizes
(2s sweeps) may still be won. This is considered to be the favored option
amongst affiliated Clubs and of the EGU/EWGA.
There are three ways a player can make his handicap active. Playing in Qualifying 18 hole comps, playing in Qualifying 9 hole comps and putting in Supplementary Scores. Any combination of 3 of these wil automatically make his handicap active.
The current CSS calculation includes inactive handicaps in the calculation. From 2012 they will be excluded although both now and then, the inactive handicap will be adjusted as appropriate.

There is one normally midweek, but I'm working in London.

If it doesn't have to be a medal and can just be a qualifying comp then I may be OK, or from the sounds of it from DaveM, a supplementary card should suffice...

Thanks for the info.
