Hey all,

So i carded 3 rounds at 3 different courses over the past week to try and get somewhat of an average to see what i'm going to be looking at when i join a golf course next month.

The cards went 79, 91 and 84. (All 72's) The 91 seemed to happen because of 2 really crappy holes but that aside it's still noted.

I wanted to ask you all if i'm asked to turn 3 rounds in then the above would of averaged 84.6 posting 12.6 handicap.
With me being so inconsistent would it mean on stableford for e.g. i'd score well if i shot the 79 and 84 and get near nothing with a 91?
There's so many rules, laws, bylaws i've ready numerous books bought don't know how the hell it's going to work out...

Cheers!

Only the lowest is used, anything above double bogey is reduced to double, and it would be done against SSS of the course.

So you cards have the potential to be 7 .... assuming the SsS was also 72 and assuming you didn't have any triple bogey or worse holes.

Hi Craig,
When you join your club and submit your 3 cards, they will take the best one and round down any bad holes to nett double bogey. Assuming you didn't have any high scores on the 79, you'd have been awarded a 7 handicap!!

Edited: Beaten to it!!

So your saying it could potentially start off at 7?
Jeez, that would petrify me going into any tourney.. But i guess the lower the better in terms of improvement. I just thought i could hover around the high teens for a while and pick some decent points up. I've only recently started hitting in the 80's so anything is progress. Cheers BT

With those scores at a club further questions would be asked IMO as its the best round after rounding (all scores above double reduced to doubles) which counts. So your handicap would be 7!

Edit must type quicker!!!

He pipped you to the post Rick!
I think it's going to be Coombe Hill by the way, love to take you round once I get back and get accepted in... If you'd be interested.
Cheers

You'll probably find it harder when you have a card in you hand actually playing for your handicap. Good going though....

They usually take your best card of the three and see what handicap you'd need to hold to score 36 Stableford points against the SSS.

So taking your 79 and assuming that the SSS was 72 (I assume from a score of 72 that there were no blow-up holes) a handicap of 7 would see you score 36 Stableford, therefore handicap = 7. ALthough I imagine they might ask for some previous history before giving such a low starting handicap.

Edit: Crumbs, I need to learn to type with two fingers.

Yes! I'm happy with anything mid teens to be honest! The 79 was at 5700yds so not overly long course - you'd have a field day I'm sure!

5700 yards is unlikely to be a par of 72, more like a 68 or 69 and SSS could be lower again so your worries of playing single figures may not be necessary just yet.

Edit: Alright, three fingers then!

Scorecard is at home - i'll have a look and see what the SSS was - i had to google what SSS meant, thought it was an addition to the former German army gents! :)

There are courses of around 5700 which are par 72. The SSS is likely to be a good bit less than 72.

Strangely I have just received a fourball at Coombe Hill for the H4H auction. Don't suppose you will want to bid on it now Craig.:)

Always harder playing with a card in hand for real but if you get single figures as a starting point that is a mighty fine effort. I suggest getting into a club as soon as possible and getting it sorted
