The scenario; a par 3, 160yds, played with a gentle following breeze. The flag sits at 145 yds, approx 5 yds on, and just over a bunker the size of a small country.

My 7 iron goes about 150yds, call it 155yds with the breeze.

The choice; drop to an 8 iron and risk the bunker, or stick with the 7 iron but go down the grip an inch taking about 5 yds off it?

The decision; hit the 7 iron to the safe part of the green, leading to a 2 putt par, maybe a 1 putt birdie.

The result;:eek: the nice easy swing, with the 7 iron down breeze, pitches on the back fringe and finishes about 3 yds over in the semi rough. 182yds with a 7 iron...

The swing felt a little lazy, with the hands lagging too much, so I whipped them in, playing catch up. On contact I thought it might go 160yds but....179yds carry?!?

The question; how do I bottle that swing and use it for every shot?

Seems when you try to nail a shot it never goes as far.......

Guess it is all about easing off and getting a clean contact, you can bet if you had tried to give the 8 a bit extra it would of likely come up short.

Brian....you've been around this game long enough to know the secret......

hit it BETTER, not harder ;)
