How often do you practice?

At the moment once a week at the range due to person stuff, hoping that's going to increase with the next month.

Regarding what to practice, my swing hibernated around October so lots of stuff to work on 😞

I want to practice 2-3 times a week on a course/driving range, and 3-5 times a week at home.

I do a lot of home practice, mostly putting on the floor to grove a good stroke. I also rehearse takeaway in mirrors and compare to videos of good swings etc.

At the course I have been known to spend 2 hours on putting and chipping... Currently I just spend time working on hitting my mid and short irons, working on reducing my number of bad shots by playing games with targets.

When I practised well I played well, when I practised little or poorly, I played poorly.

Sadly nowhere near enough! My own worst enemy I know.

My PPs have heard me whining about my awful short game for years, but how often have I practiced it it? Hardly ever I'm ashamed to say :( opting to go out on the course whenever I get a chance.

Good thread and one that has made me resolve to scrape the dirt off the shag bag and 'get with the programme! Buddy"

10 mins putting before pretty much every round. Full on putting practice for up to an hour, a few times a year. Long game/range time pretty much never.

I think this needs to be balanced with how often do you play? If you are playing 18 holes 3 or 4 times a week that's practice in itself.

If I go to the driving range I'm either working on something specific in my swing or I'm pretending I'm playing a round of golf and switching clubs every shot (once I've warmed up)

At home it's time spent in the garden chipping or pitching at buckets dotted around to improve my ability to land it where I want to.

But if I could I would just play 3 or 4 times a week...

I get to the range maybe once every 3 or 4 months, I just don't have time during the week as I work long hours and have a young family. So I have to rely on turning up on a sunday morning and being awesome.

And what do you practice?

How often? Most nights - Usually indoors or the yard.

What? - Drills my pro has me doing through the backswing (Indoors) or swinging to impact (Outdoors). Probably excessive but it helps me to groove what my pro is looking for me to do.

I also practice my putting 2-3 nights a week depending on commitments.

One Range session working on what I feel needs attention.

Now the light is coming back of an evening 9 holes after work, focusing on the swing as opposed to the score.

During the winter I prob visit the range about once every two weeks on average. What in working on really depends but mostly a full swing and to keep me ticking over. I also spend about 15 mins a day just swinging a club in the conservatory. This winter most mostly spent checking the fundamentals were in place and hip turn. When the better weather is here there will be more time spent at the course playing and then time dedicated to putting and short game.

Practice about twice a week and it's always 100yds and in shots, 50 yard chips and finish with a bit of putting on both days. I alternate between bunker and long iron/ 3 wood practice depending on what days. Plus I have a few putts at home too whilst watching hollyoaks or waiting for the dishwasher to finish.

Over the winter it's been 2-3 range sessions per week trying to bed in the few swing changes I've made and just keep the swing ticking over. Once the clock change most of the focus will be on short game and several sessions a week dedicated to chipping and putting in one, particularly holing out from 3-8 feet and working on a reliable chipping method (determined to find an orthodox method) and the other on bunker play and pitching from 100 yards and in and a lot of work on the half shots following on from Bob's post yesterday

I made myself a New Years Resolution to practice at least 3 times a week (1 putting, 1 chipping 1 range covering areas required) and to play at least twice a week.

So far I have struggled with all of these! Only really playing once a week. Mostly this is due to a change in role at work.

I intend to make the most of the lighter evenings and get more focused through to the end of season! Gotta hit 18 before the year is out! :one:

Half an hour putting practice a week on my 7 foot mat at home and I'll try get to the range for an hour one evening every fortnight.

I (currently) play once a month on average as I have a young family so it's all about balance/prioritising I guess.

I just need to play more to make the real difference :)
